  • Available sizes: Twin Long, Full, Queen, King, Cal King, Split Cal King, FlexTop Cal King, Split King, FlexTop King
  • Warranty: 25 years
  • Available Online: Yes

The second most advanced bed base option sold by Sleep Number is the FlexFit 2. Its obviously a bit more technical than the first option. Aside from being able to elevate the head and foot zone of your side of the bed, you can also elevate your partners head, in order to prevent snoring. However, please note that this option is only available for the Split King and FlexTop King sizes. The foot elevation feature is wonderful for those who often go to bed with sore feet. This function will help you regulate your blood flow and alleviate pain and stress caused by standing up too many hours per day. Remember how we explained what zero gravity feels means at the beginning of this article? The FlexFit 2 integrated the necessary technology to make you feel like youre floating on clouds. The integrated timer is also a neat feature, as you can establish a schedule for your bed to return to your favorite sleeping position whenever you want it to. The bed base is available in Stone Linen fabric, to make it easier for you to match the adjustable bed with your bedroom décor.

Flexfit 1 Adjustable Bed

  • Available sizes: Twin Long, Full, Queen, King, Cal King, Split Cal King, FlexTop Cal King, Split King, FlexTop King
  • Warranty: 25 years
  • Available Online: Yes

If you really want to own a Sleep Number adjustable bed, but youre on a budget, the FlexFit 1 is your best choice. It is the most basic adjustable base delivered by Sleep Number, but it does have a couple of features that should be able to enhance your sleeping experience, especially when matched with a Sleep Number mattress. So, what exactly can you expect from the most basic product which still has a pretty high price? First of all, this base allows you to elevate the head area, which is a useful feature in a lot of sleeping and non-sleeping situations. If youre suffering from pains in areas of your body that go from the lower back and up, you may find it difficult to fall asleep in the traditional positions.

Elevating your head might be just what you need to find comfort and finally fall asleep. Sadly, the FlexFit 1 model wont allow you to elevate the feet area, as this is an option thats only available with the other two more advanced bed bases. It does, however, integrate what Sleep Number likes to call Partner Snore technology. Its just a fancier way of saying you can also gently elevate your partners head, to prevent snoring which, lets face it, is sometimes very obnoxious .

Benefits Of Adjustable Beds

The simplest and shortest definition of an adjustable bed is that it allows you to lower or raise your upper body or legs. As a consequence, it can offer relief for symptoms that arise from medical problems such as snoring, breathing difficulties, acid reflux or sleep apnea. Not only do adjustable beds help people sleep more comfortably, but they are also recommended for certain medical conditions.

They can also aid adults and children in easily getting in and out of bed, increasing their independence level. Since this product is rapidly finding its way into consumers homes, the design of an adjustable bed has improved up to a point where it doesnt look like hospital furniture anymore. It can match the color of your mattress or your other pieces of furniture, to help it blend into the scenery. If youve ever shopped for mattresses before, youve probably heard the expression zero gravity, but what does it mean in the bedding context? As you already know, lying down on a mattress will create pressure points where your body parts press heavily against the surface of the bed.

Air Chambers

All Sleep Number mattresses come with one or two air chambers. These air chamber use a pump to bring in air that will inflate or deflate the chamber based on the individuals Sleep Number setting. Sleep Number calls this feature DualAir technology.

The higher the number the firmer the mattress will be. When there are two air chambers, each person can adjust the amount of air in their air chamber based on their personal preference.

How To Choose A Base For Your Sleep Number Mattress

How To Assemble A Sleep Number® FlexFit Base

It seems like every Sleep Number product comes with some sort of it factor, whether thats a DualAir chamber that lets you adjust the firmness on your side of the bed, temperature-regulating fabrics that cover your mattress, or a bed base that warms your feet .

The one important thing to note, however, is not all items are sold together. If youre interested in purchasing a Sleep Number bed, the base is always sold separately. Plus, Sleep Number is often best known for pictures that show one half of the bed raised that indeed can happen, but only if you buy a certain type of base, which will make the cost of your bed increase substantially.

There are a handful of Sleep Number bases to choose from. If you dont want to buy from Sleep Number, the company also makes recommendations for other types of bases to use that will adequately support your mattress. Luckily, Sleep Number mattresses come in all standard industry mattress sizes, and will fit into traditional frames, too.

Now, lets break down the types of Sleep Number bases you can purchase alongside your mattress:

What We Think About Sleep Number Mattresses

In general, we think you can get a more comfortable mattress for a lot less. But if you insist on Sleep Numbers adjustability because you and your partner cant compromise on a firmness level, and you have a flexible budget, we think only the Performance Series and Innovation Series mattresses and the Cooling Memory Foam mattress are worth considering. The less expensive Classic Series mattresses and the Value Bed lines are just too thin for most people. If you like a plush mattress with good support, then you should spend more for the Innovation Series beds, which have thicker cushioning.

Beyond SleepIQ, Sleep Numbers marketing also touts technology that claims to help you fall asleep faster with a foot-warming feature. You can also theoretically control your partners snoring by raising the upper portion of their side of the bed. However, these features are available only with the companys adjustable bases , which cost between $1,200 and $2,400 for a queen.

How To Choose The Right Model

There are several resources and ways to decide which mattress is the best match.

Online:

Sleep Numbers website offers details, photos, FAQs, and images of each Sleep Number bed. They let potential customers compare models across series and have a Live Chat feature that should answer virtually any question. People can also get a quote or make a purchase online and through the Live Chat feature.

In-Store:

Sleep Number sells their beds in Sleep Number stores nationwide. Sleep Number Customer Service was unable to tell me exactly how many stores there are but estimated somewhere near 400.

Sleep Number stores can be found across the country, including Alaska and Hawaii. There are no international stores at the moment.

A sales representative at the store can help anyone who walks in find their Sleep Number and guide them towards the right model. They have a variety of beds out and available for testing if a person wants to feel one before he or she makes a purchase.

Beds come with a 30 or 100 night trial period plus a 25-year limited warranty.

Delivery Warranty And Returns

Flexfit 3 Adjustable Base

The Value Bed line ships free via UPS. Other lines can be delivered in-person for $200. You can pick a day and time window based on availability, and, if all works well, Sleep Numbers Comfort Service Home Delivery service team stops by with your mattress, configures the air pumps and app, and shows you how everything works. However, the delivery team missed my window twice because of New York City traffic . I received my bed on the third try, only to find out that I had been given a one-chamber instead of a two-chamber mattress, as requested. For my re-order, with the help of the Sleep Number public relations team, I was able to confirm a morning delivery and received the correct mattress without a hitch. To be fair, despite my experience, customer service wasnt a big pain point among the user reviews we analyzed.

Theres a 100-night free trial for all new Sleep Number mattresses, but you need to sleep on one for 30 nights before filing for a return. Plus, if you decide to return the mattress, theres at least a $200 fee to cover transportation costs. If you ordered an adjustable base with your mattress, that base cannot be returned.

Those Who Want A Firm Mattress

The I-10 is made up of several layers, including a 2 foam base pad, 4 of PlushFit foam and memory foam and 2 of Hypersoft Quilting Foam sewn into the duvet style mattress top. While memory foam is a denser foam, so many layers in between the top of the mattress and the air chamber make the mattress naturally less firm than more standard models like the C-2 or C-4.

Selecting A Bed And Preparing For Delivery

If you’re seriously considering getting a 360 Smart Bed, I strongly suggest speaking with one of the company’s Sleep Professionals, who can assess your needs, give you a rundown of the different models and features, and help you pick the best model for you.

Sleep Number’s beds are expensive, but the company often runs promotions, so wait for a deal if you can. At the time of this writing, it’s offering $800 off 360 Smart Beds as part of a fall sale. The company also occasionally waives its $199 premium delivery and setup fee, which is otherwise required with the purchase of any 360 Smart Bed.

To make the cost more manageable, Sleep Number offers financing options through Synchrony Financial starting at $45 per month. For peace of mind, the company also offers a 100-night trial and a 15-year limited warranty.

Before receiving my review unit, I was a little nervous about whether it would work with my current bed frame, and I’m happy to report that it does. The FlexFit base needs to sit directly on the floor, but in many cases, can be dropped into your existing bed frame, as is the case with my setup. Sleep Number says it won’t work with platform furniture and frames with under-bed storage.

Do I Even Need A Base

The short answer is probably. Sleep Number claims that their mattresses are designed to work on a firm, completely solid base to provide proper support. However, that doesnt mean it needs to be a Sleep Number base.

If youre not buying a base from Sleep Number, make sure you own one that has a firm and non-spring foundationthink platform bed or bunkie board. The bases they do not recommend include a bed frame with slats or a traditional box spring base since these dont provide enough support and youre at risk for damaging the base.

All in all, its important you have a strong and durable base to get the best benefits out of your Sleep Number mattress. Whether thats a foot-warming, adjustable Sleep Number base, or a more generic and basic one, is completely up to you.
