Do You Need A Base With A Sleep Number Bed

Verify Border Wrap Positioning

Assemble Sleep Number 360® Smart Mattress & FlexFit Adjustable Base

The foam border wrap should now extend over the entirety of the foam walls and comfort layers. Confirming the border wrap extends all the way over your comfort pad ensures that your Sleep Number bed complies with federal and state flammability requirements. It also keeps your mattress under warranty. The border wrap should pull over the mattress edges, laying upon the top in a snug fit.

Who Might Want A Sleep Number

  • People who like air beds- First and foremost, the core of the Sleep Number bed is the adjustable air mattress. Those who have had a positive experience with air beds, they will probably like what Sleep Number has to offer especially with all of its adjustable features.
  • Couples who sleep differently Couples who have different support level preferences may like Sleep Number beds because most beds can be made with dual air chambers that allow each person to decide how firm their side of the bed will be. Some models like the I-10 even have comfort layers that can be adjusted on each side.
  • People with physical injuries or medical conditions Whether its a bad back, occasional heartburn or recovery from an accident, Sleep Numbers adjustable mattress, and FlexFit bases allow people to get comfortable easily and then re-adjust when theyre back to normal.
  • People who want options and flexibility Individualized comfort is the name of Sleep Numbers game, so its no surprise that people who want to be able to change things up on a nightly basis will like these models. Sleepers can adjust the firmness, pick a model whose layers fit their needs some can even help to sleep cool and they can add a FlexFit base for even more sleeping options.

Why Would Someone Pick This Model Over The Other Sleep Number Mattresses

The P-5 mattress from Sleep Number is the most popular sleep number mattress. This is most likely because of its soft mattress top and 2 comfort foam layer about the air chamber in the bed.

In general, people who were struggling with pain and those who wanted to be able to change the firmness of their bed depending on their current needs really liked the comfort of this model.

Since this model is a crowd pleaser, it seems like a safe choice to make when picking a Sleep Number bed, especially if youre not 100% certain what type of firmness you want in a bed.

The Metro Shop Leann Graceful Scroll Bronze Iron Queen

Sleep Number Bed Reviews

The Metro Shop Iron Queen-Sized Bed Frame by Tribecca Homes is the perfect mixture of the two previous products that we listed.

It gives users the sturdiness and durability that comes with a metal bed frame while also providing them with the style and the grace that you would only typically find in wooden bed frames.

To begin with, lets review the design of this bed frame. It is an intricately designed bed frame that features beautiful curves.

With a Victorian style design that is reflected in the bedposts on the corners of the bed, it has a shiny iron look that further enhances the overall elegance of the piece.

Overall, the design is beautiful and shouldnt be a problem for anyone who is concerned with style, even though this is a simple metal piece rather than a wooden one.

Now that weve taken a look at the overall style and feel of the piece, lets take a look at the functionality. This piece is quite sturdy and will easily be able to support your Sleep Number mattress, with an estimated weight limit of around 1000 pounds.

Unlike some other metal pieces, this one features two center legs that help to support the center so that the mattress does not sag down over time. This piece also eliminates squeaking and is great for those who dont want to make noise when they are getting up in the middle of the night.

Inside The Sleep Number 360 Smart Bed

The best part about the Sleep Number 360 Smart Bed is its customizability. That starts with the various configurations available for the bed itself. I tested the $3,800 king FlexTop P6 mattress, the $2,100 FlexFit 1 traditional base and two $850 DualTemp mattress pads. All together, that comes to $7,600.

Since we’re comparing the 360 bed to queen-size competitors from Beautyrest, Eight and Winkbed, I priced out the queen version of the bed I tested — it comes to $5,500.

Whether it’s a king or a queen bed, the 360 Smart Bed by Sleep Number, with optional accessories like the FlexFit 1 base and the DualTemp pads, is expensive. See how it stacks up against other connected beds in the chart below.

What Kind Of Bed Frame Can You Use With A Sleep Number Bed

A Sleep Number bed is compatible with most bed frames. You can purchase an adjustable or modular frame from the company itself, use an existing frame you have, buy a new solid frame, or even construct one yourself. Be sure to avoid box springs and platform beds with a slate base that have more than 2 gaps if youre choosing a new frame. If youre using an existing slatted bed frame that has 3 or 4 gaps, add boards yourself to fill in the space. You can also add a Bunkie board to create a flat, even surface. A Bunkie board can sit atop the slates and fit to your bed size.

Secure The Corner Lock Mechanism In Place

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW IF YOU PLAN ON BUYING A SLEEP NUMBER BED FROM QVC

While queen-sized beds have notched side walls, most double beds have a corner locking system. Simply put, these are adjacent mating side panels and end panels placed on the bottom of the mattress cover that forms its corners and keeps its walls stable. When doing a Sleep Number bed setup for a double bed, it is important to secure these in place before you can fit the foam and air chambers inside the mattress.

Place The Foam Walls And Base Pad

With your mattress top open, begin building the structure of your bed. First, make sure the notches or corner lock mechanism located at the ends of each wall face inwards, as they help give shape to and complete the rest of the wall support. Next, start with placing the long foam sidewalls along each side of the bed, followed by the end walls. Once the side and end walls are secured in place, lay the base pad flat in the middle part of the mattress.

To prevent any foam from folding, shake the base pad out before laying it into the bottom of the mattress cover. If it is dual-sided a textured side and a smooth side then make sure the smooth side faces downwards and the smooth side upwards. Also, do not forget to place the air chambers on top later on, with both hose connections facing the head of the bed. With these three parts placed properly, you will now have full access to the inside of the case, which will allow you to begin layering the bed and installing air technology.

Sizing And Weight Options

A heavier mattress will be more difficult to move, which is a factor for people who expect to relocate with any frequency. The height of a mattress can affect how well your sheets fit as well as how easily you can get in or out of bed, which is a primary concern for people with knee, hip, or back pain.

Choosing the right mattress size has a direct impact on your comfort in bed, the space in your bedroom, and the total price youll pay. Most mattresses are available in the six standard sizes twin, twin XL, full, queen, king, and California king but there are exceptions within the Tempur-Pedic and Sleep Number product lines. Some models are not offered in smaller sizes, and more specialized non-standard options are available for many mattresses.

How Do You Move A Sleep Number 360 Bed

  • Get ready. Moving a sleep number 360 bed is typically a two-person job, and you will need the following:
  • One box with 2 packing material
  • One small bag for screws
  • Six towels
  • Remote/mobile device with SleepIQ App
  • Get both sides of the bed inflated to 100.
  • Find the air chamber caps inside the base where the pump is stored. You can access the pump location by using your remote to lift the foot the base.
  • Disconnect the hoses. Do this by pushing in the tab and gently pulling to disconnect. Cap off fast to avoid losing as much air. Repeat the same steps on the opposite side.
  • Detach magnets. Remember that magnets release a strong magnetic field. Keep them away from each other and from other metallic objects to prevent possible hazards. Do so by placing towels between them to break the connection.
  • Put the mattress and other materials in a bag.

Going with the C2 and adding my own bells and whistles

Very grateful for Candid Reviewer’s advice. We were interested in the C2 after seeing the excellent rating it received from Consumer Reports, with high marks for durability, side and back sleeping. We went to the sleep number store, stuck to our plan and avoided being up- sold, and bought both the recommended fiber topper and a gel topper to experiment with once the C2 arrives. We also are using our old metal frame with a queen-size bunkie board , for a nice savings compared to the $300 foundation from sleep number. More $ for new sheets and bedding!

Not perfect but best mattress I’ve had in….well ever.

I will not buy any other bed again.

Best bed I ever had. I’m a big person 300 Plus pounds…At year 10 the pump went out and I called…they still had my info and sold me a new pump at 1/2 price. It’s went through 2 moves and is still great! My husband is also big so it stands up to heavy folks. Folks on the phone were friendly and helpful. I’m looking now to buy my son one.

Selecting A Bed And Preparing For Delivery

If you’re seriously considering getting a 360 Smart Bed, I strongly suggest speaking with one of the company’s Sleep Professionals, who can assess your needs, give you a rundown of the different models and features, and help you pick the best model for you.

Sleep Number’s beds are expensive, but the company often runs promotions, so wait for a deal if you can. At the time of this writing, it’s offering $800 off 360 Smart Beds as part of a fall sale. The company also occasionally waives its $199 premium delivery and setup fee, which is otherwise required with the purchase of any 360 Smart Bed.

To make the cost more manageable, Sleep Number offers financing options through Synchrony Financial starting at $45 per month. For peace of mind, the company also offers a 100-night trial and a 15-year limited warranty.

Before receiving my review unit, I was a little nervous about whether it would work with my current bed frame, and I’m happy to report that it does. The FlexFit base needs to sit directly on the floor, but in many cases, can be dropped into your existing bed frame, as is the case with my setup. Sleep Number says it won’t work with platform furniture and frames with under-bed storage.

Which Side Is Which On A Sleep Number Bed

To choose which side of the bed you want to sleep on, press the L or R button on the Sleep Number remote. For example, if you like to sleep on the right side of the bed, hit the R button on the remote control. Set the Sleep Number to 100 on the remote control, which is the firmest level available.

    Solid Platform Bed Options

Make a Platform Bed for Sleep Number, Tempurpedic, or other foam mattresses!!!!

If youre not happy with your existing bed frame and dont want to invest in a Sleep Number base, your best option is to find a good solid platform bed with either a flat support, a series of slats you can add to, or to place a bunkie board on top of it. Platform beds come in many different shape and size options, and can even be made quite easily if youre DIY-savvy. Simple frame blueprints are easy to come by if you need any inspiration.

    Size and Design Options

Many platform beds are a bit lower to the ground overall than what you might be used to with a traditional frame. Because of this, you may want to carefully consider the beds profile to ensure you arent too low, which may make it uncomfortable to get in and out of bed. Other frames may also be enclosed, with storage drawers beneath. You should be careful when selecting your frames design to ensure its compatible with a Sleep Number Bed, and that the hardware that comes with the bed works properly.

Mattresses in the Classic Series are billed as the comfortable, adjustable, affordable Sleep Number option.

The c2 Smart Bed has a 2-inch gel-infused comfort layer, which might feel thin if youre used to a more generous pillow top. Like all Sleep Number mattresses, this one responds to your movements and automatically adjusts firmness.

Despite the slim comfort layer, over 11,000 reviews rank the c2 Smart Bed 4.6 out of 5 stars. More than 9,000 of these reviews are 5 stars, with customers calling it a great investment. Other reviewers love having the freedom to adjust their settings for specific comfort.

Negative reviews describe general discomfort and aches and pains. However, customer service responds to these reviews and invites unhappy customers to contact the company directly for assistance.

    Box Spring Vs Foundation

Many people refer to the foundation that their bed lays on as a box spring. But the term box spring refers to the wooden framed box that contains coils or springs inside.

Newer box springs no longer contain springs. Thus, they are now referred to as foundations. Mattress foundations are typically comprised of a wooden frame with slats.

While foundations provide extra support and raise you up higher, they mostly arent necessary anymore. In the past, mattresses were thinner and box springs were needed to absorb shock. But now that mattresses are more solid, you dont need a foundation if you have a proper solid frame.
