How To Make My Apple Watch Sleep

Turn off Sleep Mode on Apple Watch 7 in WatchOS 8: Complete Guide

You asked, how do I put my Apple Watch to sleep?

  • Open the Settings app on your Apple Watch.
  • Tap Sleep, then tap Sleep Focus to adjust these settings: Turn On at Wind Down: By default, Sleep Focus begins at the wind down time you set in the Sleep app.
  • Turn Sleep Tracking and Charging Reminders on or off.
  • Best answer for this question, how do I turn my Apple Watch screen off? The watch face appears when Apple Watch is on. Turn off: Normally, youll leave your Apple Watch on all of the time, but if you need to turn it off, press and hold the side button until the sliders appear, then drag the Power Off slider to the right.

Amazingly, does the Apple Watch screen go to sleep? By default, the display screen on Apple Watch will go to sleep after 15 seconds. If you want to see a bit more of your watch face, however, you can change the amount of time it takes for your watch to go back to sleep after you tap the screen.

Sleep Data Is Modest And Not Particularly Actionable

Apples sleep tracking app interface is simple. Tell it your preferred bedtime schedule in my case, 11 p.m. to just before 6 a.m. and it will be looking out for sleep during those times . It turns out that you must set up tracking schedules to cover each individual day of the week or use separate schedules for weekdays and weekends. I didnt realize until too late that the Watch hadnt recorded data for two full nights because I hadnt set up a separate weekend schedule to cover them.

Assuming the Watch gathers your data properly, youll see a very modest display of data, including a bar representing your total time asleep, the timestamps indicating sleep start and end points, and a bar chart covering the last 14 days. If you want a deeper dive, you can open the Health app on an iPhone to see your average time in bed and average time asleep and under some conditions, a correlation of your overnight heart rate data with your sleeping schedule. When I checked the Health app, one day the heart rate data was there, but another day it disappeared from the apps list of Highlights and I couldnt find it.

Apple has suggested its providing little data to keep users from obsessing over their sleep schedules, as that might inadvertently generate even more anxiety or restlessness. Im still not sure whether thats truly an act of kindness or just a convenient excuse for underwhelming functionality.

How To Use Do Not Disturb On Apple Watch

The idea of Do Not Disturb, as the name suggests, is to allow your Apple Watch to continue collecting notifications without actually notifying you. That might sound strange, but if you’re asleep, in a meeting, at the movies, or otherwise in a place where you don’t want noise or haptics to bother you, but don’t want a list of everything you might have missed in the meantime, Do Not Disturb on Apple Watch is just what you need.

    Control When You’ll See Siri

There are three different ways to activate Siri on your Apple Watch. You can raise your wrist toward your mouth and start talking, long-press the Digital Crown or use the wake phrase, “Hey, Siri.”

I’ve found that I often accidentally trigger Siri when trying to check the time or read a notification while I’m talking to someone else . It’s annoying, but it can be changed.

Either in the Watch app on your phone or in the Settings app on the Watch, select Siri and there you’ll find three buttons to control when you’ll see Siri. Slide each button to the Off position for any of the options you don’t want to use.

    What Nightstand Mode Doesnt Do

Nightstand Mode seems pretty handy, but there are a lot of things that it doesnt do, which can make it less useful than you might expect.

First off, when you have your Apple Watch in Nightstand Mode, the screen doesnt stay on. Instead, it shuts off after a few seconds. To turn the screen back on, you just have to give the watch a light tap anywhere and it will illuminate for another few seconds.

This can be really inconvenient when you wake up in the middle of the night wondering what time it is, only to realize you have to reach over to turn the watchs screen on while youre half asleep.

You also cant adjust the brightness of the screen whenever it does kick on. Its fairly dim, but I wouldnt be surprised if many others thought that it was a little too bright when its pitch black in the room and the screen sort of blinds you as it turns on.

Hopefully these subtle features get added in a future update update, but for the time being, it puts a huge damper on Nightstand Mode and prevents your Apple Watch from becoming a true alarm clock replacement.

Manually Turn It On Every Night

Swipeup to the Control Center on your Apple Watch, tap on the Do Not Disturb icon, and then tap on the “Sleep” tab.

You can also do this on your iPhone, which will then automatically put your Apple Watch into Sleep Mode, too. To do this, swipe down to the Control Center, tap on the Focus tab, and then tap the Sleep icon.

    What Is Nightstand Mode

When you put your Apple Watch on its charger and place it upright, it will automatically go into Nightstand Mode, which switches the screen from your usual watch face to a big digital clock that takes up the whole screen. This is to mimic what a traditional bedside clock would normally do.

Then, when you take your watch off of the charger, it will automatically exit Nightstand Mode and go back to displaying your normal watch face.

Most of the time, your watch can sit upright when its connected to the charger, but if the specific wristband you have doesnt allow you to do this, you can buy a cheap Apple Watch charging dock that sit your watch upright for Nightstand Mode instead.

Smartwatches can be useful for discreetly checking an alert or the time. But loud notifications can defeat the purpose. Turn on your Apple Watch’s silent mode by swiping up from the bottom of the screen to launch the Control Center. Then tap the icon that looks like abell to trigger Silent Mode.

You can also do this by opening the Apple Watch’s Settings menu, scrolling down to Sound & Haptics and toggling the switch next to Silent Mode. There’s also a volume slider for adjusting how loud or quiet incoming notifications sound if you’d rather not mute them completely.

Does The Apple Watch Have Enough Battery To Track Sleep

Battery life has been pointed to as a reason why Apple might have been reluctant to offer its own sleep tracking app in the past. Apple still states an 18 hour battery life for its smartwatch, which hasnt changed since the first Watch. Any battery improvements have been canceled out by features like the Apple Watch 5s always-on screen.

To make sure you have enough battery to track sleep through the night, Apple requires your watch to be charged to at least 30% to enable it.

If you dont, the Watch will prompt you to charge before going to bed. When its got enough juice, your phone will alert you that its ready to join you in bed. In our time we found that sleep tracking sucked up around 20% battery on average, so its definitely going to impact how much battery youre left with in the morning.

Is It Bad To Wear Your Watch While Sleeping

Watches are primarily used to tell time. But Apple Watch alongside other smartwatches on the market today carry different capabilities that are quite convenient for several occasions. From measuring your heart rate to giving you email or message alerts, tracking your exercises to recording and collecting your sleep data, people have become increasingly dependent on them.

Because of this feature diversification, some occasions may render them useful when you are sleeping. But with these improvements, are there any health concerns or dangers of sleeping with your watch on?

Well, there are no known cases of serious harm resulting from sleeping with watches. The primary reason why you should reconsider sleeping with your watch on has to do with your comfort and quality of sleep. That is aside from protecting it from damage that might occur as you sleep.
