A solid and firm bed base is highly beneficial to a mattress. Uneven surfaces cause the body weight to sink into different spots on the mattress lessening its lifespan. Having said that, choosing an adjustable base that mirrors the impressive features of Sleep Number Base goes miles to unlock the potential of a mattress.

In addition to the adjustable bases highlighted above, another great Sleep Number base alternative is theGhostBed Adjustable Base. It is well-suited to those withsleep apnea, lower back pain as well as couples with diverse comfort preferences.

The base comes with different lower and upper body positions for lounging, watching TV and sleeping around. Its zero-gravity setting is impressive for lower back pain and high blood pressure.

Another impressive feature of the Ghostbed adjustable base has to do with its anti-snore preset. Just like with the other alternatives to the Sleep Number base, this model features dual USB ports and under-bed lighting. We have reviewed it extensively in ourbest adjustable bed frame guide.

An industry-leading 15 massage mode ensure luxurious relaxation. A non-skid surface coupled with a sturdy retainer bar keeps the mattress firmly in place.

Owner Review Feedback For Sleep Number Mattresses

Sleep Number mattresses are typically purchased directly from Sleep Number, so thats where we found the majority of the online reviews. Out of the 34 good-quality negative user reviews we collected about the Classic Series , 10 contained complaints about issues related to a lack of cushioning. This included reviewers describing the mattress as too firm, too thin, bottoming out, or having poor pressure relief. Several reviewers pointed out that the c series is especially problematic for heavier-weight sleepers, and others noted the support felt better once they added a mattress topper.

For negative feedback on the Performance Series, we found far fewer complaints related specifically to the mattress thinness . But four out of 26 good-quality negative Innovation Series reviews noted that the mattresses were too firm or offered poor pressure relief. Perhaps this is to be expected, given that these users paid much more for their mattresses and therefore expected more. Three out of the six Cooling Memory Foam owners complained that their mattresses were either too thin, too firm, or lacked pressure relief.

Common Complaints And Compliments

Here are the most common compliments and complaints about Sleep Number beds, from the customers themselves! You can also read more in my common complaints blog post.

Top Common Compliments:

Pain relief. Many happy customers said they woke up pain-free from issues that used to keep them up all night. The models that fell in middle-range firmness i6 and i8 are especially known for balancing firmness and comfort really well. In fact, an overwhelming number of people specifically spoke about back pain being alleviated. The adjustability of the bed also makes this a flexible sleep option, so if youre having any aches, moving your sleep number setting up or down could help with some of your discomforts.

Great for partners! This bed is a great option for couples, especially those who have different sleep styles and comfort or firmness preferences. The DualAir chambers feature means each side of the bed can be adjusted separately so you can sleep exactly how you want to without having to compromise with your bedmate.

Awesome technology. If you love data and technology features in your new mattress, look no further. From temperature-regulating technology to automatic adjustments in the middle of the night, to your bed measuring your sleep activity and giving you a Sleep Score, this bed is a great option for sleep nerds.

Which Sleep Number Bed Is Best

Now to the real meat of it! Here is a breakdown of every Sleep Number bed so you can figure out what is best for you.

For Firm Loves, Without Bells and Whistles

The C Classic series mattresses will be the most affordable option, but also the most limiting. These beds will be on the firmest end of the spectrum and come with the least amount of bells and whistles. Still, this could be a great option if youre on a budget but still want the ability to adjust the level of air pressure in your mattress with the click of a button.

The Sleep Number c2 Bed:

The c2 bed does not come with a foam mattress pad on top of the air chamber. Instead, it has a soft fiberfill sewn into a thin layer right above the air chambers. This is a great option for people who love firm beds especially side sleepers. Many reviewers said the bed did a great job at helping alleviate back pain by providing ample and firm support. Others spoke to the beds longevity and a few were happy with the price point being more manageable than comparable beds.

Lastly, the c2 includes a 15-Year Limited Warranty, which means any damage to the bed due to a manufacturing or material issue will be covered by Sleep Number for the first two years. After that, a percentage of the cost will be replaced or refunded up to 15 years based on the type of damage reported.

Sleep Number Remote Not Working

The firmness of a Sleep Number bed is controlled via a remote or SleepIQ app.

Have trouble with the remote? Don’t fret as troubleshooting isn’t challenging. Two AA batteries run the Sleep Number 360 smart bed remote. In addition to following the remote’s set-up process, users need to ensure their bed is not only plugged in but also all the connections are secure.

When a remote stops working, inflating or deflating the mattress isn’t possible. The remote can stop working mainly because of two reasons

· Kinked hose

· Loss of power connection

If the bed’s Firmness Control System is not running as you try to deflate or inflate, it means that the system isn’t getting enough power. If that’s the case, push the power cord into the wall and system’s base.

If it is because of a kinked or loose hose connection, check to ensure the hose isn’t lined at the bed’s base and mattress. A kinked hose connection is also common with theFLEXFIT 3 SMART BASE. If this is the case, check the connection of the hose at the pump.

Another issue that affects a remote is the display not working. If the display light is dimmed or not working, consider changing the batteries. When doing that, insert the batteries and battery cover properly.

The Sleep Number Value Beds

The Value Bed line is Sleep Numbers bed in a box option. The company is planning to discontinue it in the near future, but for now, given the current coronavirus crisis, it has gained in popularity because of its contact-free delivery. The Value lines s1 and the s3 mattresses cost about the same as the beds in the Classic line, but they have a quilted cushion layer . That quilted layer is zoned to cater to various pressure points there are five different cushioned areas in the s1 and seven in the s3. The company doesnt divulge details about its foam, so were not sure how the zones differ. But we do know that this comfort portion isnt thicker than the 2 inches we found wanting in the Classic lines entry-level c2, and the air pump sits on the floor, as opposed to being integrated into the mattress itself, like with the other lines. And although the Value line comes with SleepIQ technology, the Value Beds dont have the smart feature that allows them to conform to your body as you shift positions. We havent tried this line, but given how spartan the c line felt, we cant imagine that any amount of quilting or zoning would compensate for the thin comfort layer.

Going with the C2 and adding my own bells and whistles

Very grateful for Candid Reviewer’s advice. We were interested in the C2 after seeing the excellent rating it received from Consumer Reports, with high marks for durability, side and back sleeping. We went to the sleep number store, stuck to our plan and avoided being up- sold, and bought both the recommended fiber topper and a gel topper to experiment with once the C2 arrives. We also are using our old metal frame with a queen-size bunkie board , for a nice savings compared to the $300 foundation from sleep number. More $ for new sheets and bedding!

Not perfect but best mattress I’ve had in….well ever.

I will not buy any other bed again.

Best bed I ever had. I’m a big person 300 Plus pounds…At year 10 the pump went out and I called…they still had my info and sold me a new pump at 1/2 price. It’s went through 2 moves and is still great! My husband is also big so it stands up to heavy folks. Folks on the phone were friendly and helpful. I’m looking now to buy my son one.

So far, So Good!

Warning: Sleep Number Beds Last Only 6 Years

I wish I had not purchased this bed since I cannot find a good sleep position and will purchase another mattress

One moth in and love it, after a few tweaks

DO NOT BUY THIS BED!!!! READ YOUR WARRANTY!!!

BUYER BEWARE!!

Legal Issues And Controversy

Sleep Number Memory Foam Full Mattress with Adjustable ...

In 2005, Sleepy’s, which is now Mattress Firm, sued Select Comfort, currently known as Sleep Number, for disparaging the quality and comfort of Personal Preference beds made by Sleepy’s, and said Sleepys offered inferior warranties. The case revolved around whether or not Select Comfort violated a 2005 contract that let Sleepys sell a Select Comfort product, while Select Comfort sold an arguably superior product in its own stores. The case was originally dismissed in 2015 by U.S. District Judge Joanna Seybert in Central Islip, New York but later revived by the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in 2018 after finding out that the lower court misinterpreted part of the New York law. The appeals court also threw out a $2.63 million legal fee award for Sleep Number. In 2015, a class action lawsuit was filed against Sleep Number and Leggett & Platt accusing the companies of failing to uphold the warranty and fix a bed they sold to customers, David and Katina Spade. The suit claims there were several other customers who experienced similar issues.

Customization Options And Special Features

Customization options and features vary based on the Sleep Number collection and include:

  • Flexfit, which allows users to raise their partners head to reduce snoring.
  • Under-bed lighting, which helps users find their way around at night safely with additional illumination.
  • Adjustable positions, which raise or lower portions of the bed to adjust the users overall sleeping experience.
  • Foot warming, which provides targeted, adjustable heat at the foot of the bed.

Tailor Each Mattress To Fit Individual Needs

Oftentimes, partners need different things from their beds, and couples can finetune a split adjustable bed just for them. For example, one person could be a side sleeper who needs more cushioning around the shoulders and hips, while their partner may be a stomach sleeper who requires a firmer feel to avoid sinking into the mattress at the midsection. In that case, the side sleeper could use a soft mattress topper or even a softer mattress on their side of the split king.

Most Popular Sleep Number Beds

The most popular beds in the Sleep Number brand are the Classic 360® c2 and the Innovation 360® i8 Smart Bed. The first makes the list because it offers a lot of design for the price. The second does because it has every Sleep Number bell and whistle they offer.

Classic 360® c2

The Classic 360® c2 is the baseline model among all Sleep Number 360 beds. No fancy foam layers. No expensive base. Just 2 inches of fabric and foam on top of the eponymous, adjustable air chamber that basically makes a Sleep Number bed. Its affordable for a Sleep Number mattress and you can still adjust ho firm it feels. Its a budget option, but one with the most attractive mattress feature Sleep Number sells.

Innovation 360® Smart Bed i8

The Innovation 360® Smart Bed i8 is 12 inches thick with a soft and breathable fabric cover. The 6-inch comfort layer in the i8 uses two different types of foam for support and pressure relief. There is also a special material in the surface of the mattress that releases heat so the mattress keeps its cool. This bed has the dual air chambers that you can adjust to find the right firmness, SleepIQ® tracking, the temperature-balancing surface and the Responsive Air® feature that will add or release air as you shift at night to make the bed more comfortable.
