Sleep Number offers two lines of mattresses: the Sleep Number 360 Smart Bed line and the Sleep Number Value Bed line.
The Sleep Number 360 Smart Bed line consists of four series, most of which include several models:
From a design standpoint, Sleep Number 360 Smart Beds and Value Beds are similar to any other mattresses: Each contains an upper comfort portion made of foam layers and a lower support portion. Instead of the foam or springs found in the lower support portion of conventional mattresses, in Sleep Number mattresses, that support portion consists of an adjustable air chamber and a support pad. These air chambers make it possible for couples to independently adjust firmness levels to their own liking. Theres also a sleep tracker inside the bed.
Heres how the key components work:
The air chamber allows you to adjust the firmness level of the mattressyour sleep settingsby filling the chamber with more or less air. The settings range from 5 to 100 you can adjust them in increments of 5 using the SleepIQ app on your phone or tablet, or with a remote . With the 360 Smart Beds, the tissue-boxsized pump is incorporated into a base , which pairs with the mattress. If you dont purchase the base, the pump will sit on the floor.

The Sleep Number Company leapt into popularity in the 1980s with its introduction of the wholly customizable sleep experience. Through the years, the company has held its rating as a top bed manufacturer in the sleep industry, and continually presented new technologies in advance of other brand names.

The $199 Beautyrest Sleeptracker works similarly to Eight’s version, but it’s a device you put under your mattress, rather than a pad you fit over the entire mattress. You need one Beautyrest Sleeptracker per person,and you automatically get two with your $199 purchase . Beautyrest’s Sleeptracker only works with Alexa, though, and Molly Price said its tracking wasn’t as reliable as she expected during testing.
Unlike Sleep Number and Eight, you have to buy the Winkbed mattress to use the bed’s temperature control feature.

Level & Flat Sleep Surface
About 20% of Sleep Number bed owners report a problem with the middle of the bed where the two air chambers meet.
Some owners say there is a “valley” or “trench” in the middle, while others report a “hump.” There also can be a problem with one or both sides of the bed sloping toward the middle which can cause a sleeper to roll or slide in that direction.
The middle area may be uncomfortable to lie on, and it can be less than friendly for intimate activities, including cuddling, spooning and sex.
Sleep Number customer service may have solutions to problems with the middle, such as a “lift” which is a piece of foam that is placed under the air chambers to raise the middle.
Problems with the middle of the bed tend to be reported mainly by owners who use very different firmness settings for each side of the bed, such as 90-20. It may also be a problem when both sides use a very low or very high firmness setting.

Going with the C2 and adding my own bells and whistles
Very grateful for Candid Reviewer’s advice. We were interested in the C2 after seeing the excellent rating it received from Consumer Reports, with high marks for durability, side and back sleeping. We went to the sleep number store, stuck to our plan and avoided being up- sold, and bought both the recommended fiber topper and a gel topper to experiment with once the C2 arrives. We also are using our old metal frame with a queen-size bunkie board , for a nice savings compared to the $300 foundation from sleep number. More $ for new sheets and bedding!

Best bed I ever had. I’m a big person 300 Plus pounds…At year 10 the pump went out and I called…they still had my info and sold me a new pump at 1/2 price. It’s went through 2 moves and is still great! My husband is also big so it stands up to heavy folks. Folks on the phone were friendly and helpful. I’m looking now to buy my son one.

What To Expect On Its Setup
Because the whole system does not use springs, it can be compatible with any bed frame type. Here is what the most basic setup looks like:
- The mattress will be placed on a molded plastic platform covered in upholstery. This platform will make your bed look like it has springs like typical mattresses for comfort.
- The mechanized lifting system is placed underneath. This system controls the levels of three parts of the mattress: the head, foot, or both. The air pump and remote control are also found under the bed.
The price you pay will depend on the features you will get, the cost of its base, and the delivery and setup fee.
