What To Look Forward To
In 2022, Sleep Number is releasing its Climate 360 Smart Bed, which is said to be responsive to both temperature and firmness preferences. The company says the bed will have sensors to measure sleep-tracking data like your heart, heart-rate variability, and breathing rate. Among other features, the mattress will automatically adjust firmness in response to your movements, and warm or cool the bed based on your body temperature. Sleep Number also now offers a kids bed.

One size does not fit all. For the best support, a mattress should conform to your weight and form, with different amounts of density where the body is heavier or lighter

Sleep Number Flexfit 2 Base Vs Leggett & Platt Prodigy 20
Many shoppers who start off on the search for an adjustable mattress dont realize that what they might actually prefer is an adjustable base, which allows you to elevate your head and feet and create endless positions that cater to in-bed activities, like reading and watching TV.
Adjustable bases may also improve sleep issues like snoring and sleep apnea. Sleep Number offers three adjustable bases that work with nearly any of its airbeds, and the FlexFit 2 is the middle-of-the-road price option. It comes in nine sizes, including split King, is backed by a 25-year warranty, and has under-bed lighting and other luxury features.
The Leggett & Platt Prodigy 2.0 is an alternative to the Sleep Number base, with a similar price point, great reviews on Amazon, three size options, including split King, and a 10-year warranty.

When compared to a standard king, couples report that split king mattresses are more comfortable for both partners because the two twin xl sized sides can be customized based on the needs of both sleepers.
How to adjust each side of a split-king mattress will be outlined below, but it is important to know that there are advantages and disadvantages to sleeping on any type of split mattress. Well cover those below, too. First, lets get your dimension, size, and comparison questions out of the way.

Sleep Number Vs Personal Comfort
Theres not just one bed by Personal Comfort that compares to a Sleep Number. Rather, nearly every bed made by Personal Comfort is produced to directly compete with a corresponding Sleep Number model. Sleep Number offers the Classic, Performance, and Innovation lines, and Personal Comfort offers the Classic, Advanced, and Elegance lines.
Both mattress manufacturers have designed these lines to be priced from budget-friendly to luxury investment, and the bed models share similar names . But how do Personal Comfort mattresses actually compare?
Personal Comforts price points are generally lower compared to Sleep Number , but some customers note issues with the beds durability and Personal Comforts customer service.

The Sleep Number Cooling Memory Foam
The m7 is the only Sleep Number bed that offers the hugging sensation of memory foam. If you and your sleep partner prefer a light memory-foam cradling, and if you cant agree on a firmness level, then the m7 may be a worthwhile, albeit expensive, option. However, the company doesnt divulge what, exactly, is in that foamy comfort portion, so we dont know how dense, and therefore durable, it is. The sinky-ness of the m7 is comparable to that of most online foam mattresses . It has a slight sinking sensation, but not the more-assertive curve-conforming feel of something like the Tempur-Adapt.
Which Size Is Right For You
No matter which size you choose, the best mattress size will comfortably fit the bedroom with walking space and areas for furniture for aesthetic appeal. A king-size is a great option with its wider dimension, offering more personal space for couples. A split king size is another great option, providing catered sleeping preferences so both couples have optimal comfort without compromise. Both are excellent choices for any master bedroom.

Inside The Sleep Number 360 Smart Bed
The best part about the Sleep Number 360 Smart Bed is its customizability. That starts with the various configurations available for the bed itself. I tested the $3,800 king FlexTop P6 mattress, the $2,100 FlexFit 1 traditional base and two $850 DualTemp mattress pads. All together, that comes to $7,600.
Since we’re comparing the 360 bed to queen-size competitors from Beautyrest, Eight and Winkbed, I priced out the queen version of the bed I tested — it comes to $5,500.
Whether it’s a king or a queen bed, the 360 Smart Bed by Sleep Number, with optional accessories like the FlexFit 1 base and the DualTemp pads, is expensive. See how it stacks up against other connected beds in the chart below.

Mattresses in the Classic Series are billed as the comfortable, adjustable, affordable Sleep Number option.
The c2 Smart Bed has a 2-inch gel-infused comfort layer, which might feel thin if youre used to a more generous pillow top. Like all Sleep Number mattresses, this one responds to your movements and automatically adjusts firmness.
Despite the slim comfort layer, over 11,000 reviews rank the c2 Smart Bed 4.6 out of 5 stars. More than 9,000 of these reviews are 5 stars, with customers calling it a great investment. Other reviewers love having the freedom to adjust their settings for specific comfort.
Negative reviews describe general discomfort and aches and pains. However, customer service responds to these reviews and invites unhappy customers to contact the company directly for assistance.

What We Think About Sleep Number Mattresses
In general, we think you can get a more comfortable mattress for a lot less. But if you insist on Sleep Numbers adjustability because you and your partner cant compromise on a firmness level, and you have a flexible budget, we think only the Performance Series and Innovation Series mattresses and the Cooling Memory Foam mattress are worth considering. The less expensive Classic Series mattresses and the Value Bed lines are just too thin for most people. If you like a plush mattress with good support, then you should spend more for the Innovation Series beds, which have thicker cushioning.
Beyond SleepIQ, Sleep Numbers marketing also touts technology that claims to help you fall asleep faster with a foot-warming feature. You can also theoretically control your partners snoring by raising the upper portion of their side of the bed. However, these features are available only with the companys adjustable bases , which cost between $1,200 and $2,400 for a queen.
Heres how the mattresses themselves compare to one another:
Sleep Number Trial And Warranty
Sleep Number offers a 100-night trial that begins the day your new mattress arrives. The company asks that you give yourself 30 nights to adjust to your new mattress.
If youre not happy after 30 nights and before the 100-night trial ends, you can contact the company to arrange a return or exchange. This is a necessary step, as Sleep Number must authorize all returns. Some accessories, including bases, cant be returned.
Shipping and delivery fees apply for any permitted returns. In some cases, the only available return shipping option may mean the product is picked up by Sleep Number at your cost. Returns cant be processed in retail stores.
Sleep Number mattresses have a 15-year limited warranty against defects in material and workmanship under normal use. If you have a claim during the first warranty year, you dont have to pay for repairs, but you may be responsible for shipping fees.
Costs go up significantly after the first year. Through year 11, youre responsible for paying 30 percent plus 5 percent for each year from the date of purchase if you have a claim. From year 11 to year 15, youll pay 85 percent of the costs if you have a claim.
Warranties vary for Sleep Number accessories.

Place The Foam Walls And Base Pad
With your mattress top open, begin building the structure of your bed. First, make sure the notches or corner lock mechanism located at the ends of each wall face inwards, as they help give shape to and complete the rest of the wall support. Next, start with placing the long foam sidewalls along each side of the bed, followed by the end walls. Once the side and end walls are secured in place, lay the base pad flat in the middle part of the mattress.
To prevent any foam from folding, shake the base pad out before laying it into the bottom of the mattress cover. If it is dual-sided a textured side and a smooth side then make sure the smooth side faces downwards and the smooth side upwards. Also, do not forget to place the air chambers on top later on, with both hose connections facing the head of the bed. With these three parts placed properly, you will now have full access to the inside of the case, which will allow you to begin layering the bed and installing air technology.
Place The Mattress Cover Over Your Base
Step #2 is where you begin assembling your mattress. Depending on whether your bed has a dual system or not, the bottom of your mattress casing may have one or two openings. These openings will need to be placed at the head of your bed so that you can set up your air system properly. If you have two of them, make sure to open the bottom zipper, as this is where all the foam, sidewalls, base pad, and air chambers will go.

Is A Sleep Number Mattress Worth The Price
Sleep Number mattresses are pricier than many nonadjustable mattresses. Youll pay about $899 to $4,299 for a queen-size mattress.
Still, many reviewers seem to feel that theyre worth the price. Happy customers report that they love being able to adjust the feel of the mattress just to their liking.
Who Might Not Want A Sleep Number
- People who love memory foam Depending on what is available, there are one possibly two Sleep Number models that offer a comfort layer made with memory foam. Those who love the feel of classic memory foam will be limited on Sleep Number beds, which are at their core adjustable air beds.
- Couples who like to sleep close together One of the biggest complaints from couples is that a sagging/division is created in between the dual air chambers on the bed. Couples who like to sleep close or cuddle in the center of the bed feel as those they are sinking into the middle of the bed.

Sleep Number Mattress Reviews
Learn why people have been turning to Sleep Number beds for decades to satisfy their customizable bed needs.
In This Review
When it comes to adjustable airbeds, Sleep Number is probably one of the first brands that comes to mind. Sleep Numbers luxury adjustable mattresses are perfect for couples or people who are just looking for their ideal level of firmness or comfort. There are 5 mattress collections in Sleep Numbers arsenal, and we are going to explore each in depth, so keep reading for a deeper dive.
The Sleep Number Innovation Series
The Innovation Series is Sleep Numbers highest-end, plushest line. Although these mattresses arguably dont feel as plush as most foam or innerspring mattresses of similar price, the beds in this line actually feel like nice mattresses. If I were set on a Sleep Number mattress and could afford to do so, Id spend more for the Innovation lines added cushioning. But for someone like my husband, who just wants something adjustable and comfortable enough to sleep on, a less-expensive p6 would do just fine.
The i8 comes with 6 inches of foam and a temperature-balancing surface , and it felt pleasantly pillowy. The i10, with its additional inch of foam, was just a tad fluffier. Like the pSE from the companys Performance line, the iLE is not a typical fixture in-store, and it, too, has the ClimaTemp foam, described by the company as softer and more cooling.
