Sleep Number Queen Bed Sale

Construction And Materials Comparison

Sleep Number i8 Modular Base Queen Mattress Set

The construction of a mattress is of central importance to its feel, performance, and durability. The construction includes both the design of its layers and the actual materials used in those layers.

In general, a mattress can be understood as having two main sections:

  • The comfort system is the top part and offers the most immediate effect on feel. It is normally made of polyfoam, memory foam, latex, wool, cotton, and/or polyester.
  • The support core is the bottom part of the mattress. It affects the mattress feel and the performance of the comfort system. The support core also helps prevent against excessive sagging in the mattress. It can be made with polyfoam, latex, innerspring coils, or air chambers.

Both the comfort system and support core can be made up of one or more layers that can be the same or different materials. Quality components in each and every layer will help protect against a weak link that drags down the overall mattress performance.

The following sections give an overview of the construction and materials in the Tempur-Pedic and Sleep Number beds. While we know the basics about what goes into them, neither company discloses all the specifications of their mattresses, which can at times make it difficult to fully compare their models.

Smart Bed Support Levels

Like with any mattress, the most essential criterion for a smart bed is whether it delivers the support you need for spinal alignment, says Bert Jacobson, head of the School of Kinesiology, Applied Health and Recreation at Oklahoma State University, who researches the impact of sleep surfaces on slumber quality.

Your body type can determine what level of fitness is necessary for a good night’s sleep. Heavier people tend to require firmer mattresses to support their bodys pressure zones, for example. One size does not fit all. For the best support, a bed should conform to your weight and form, with different amounts of density where the body is heavier or lighter, says Jacobson. A Consumer Reports survey found people with neck and back pain reported better sleep on adjustable air beds such as Sleep Number mattresses, where firmness could be precisely tweaked.

The process and logistics associated with buying a mattress online are different from the traditional brick-and-mortar experience. For customers, it tends to be more convenient to buy online, but there can be some confusion about exactly how it works.

The next three sections cover topics that are frequently asked about by people who are shopping for a mattress online for the first time.

Inside The Sleep Number 360 Smart Bed

The best part about the Sleep Number 360 Smart Bed is its customizability. That starts with the various configurations available for the bed itself. I tested the $3,800 king FlexTop P6 mattress, the $2,100 FlexFit 1 traditional base and two $850 DualTemp mattress pads. All together, that comes to $7,600.

Since we’re comparing the 360 bed to queen-size competitors from Beautyrest, Eight and Winkbed, I priced out the queen version of the bed I tested — it comes to $5,500.

Whether it’s a king or a queen bed, the 360 Smart Bed by Sleep Number, with optional accessories like the FlexFit 1 base and the DualTemp pads, is expensive. See how it stacks up against other connected beds in the chart below.

Sleep Number Trial And Warranty

Sleep Number i8 Modular Base Queen Mattress Set

Sleep Number offers a 100-night trial that begins the day your new mattress arrives. The company asks that you give yourself 30 nights to adjust to your new mattress.

If youre not happy after 30 nights and before the 100-night trial ends, you can contact the company to arrange a return or exchange. This is a necessary step, as Sleep Number must authorize all returns. Some accessories, including bases, cant be returned.

Shipping and delivery fees apply for any permitted returns. In some cases, the only available return shipping option may mean the product is picked up by Sleep Number at your cost. Returns cant be processed in retail stores.

Sleep Number mattresses have a 15-year limited warranty against defects in material and workmanship under normal use. If you have a claim during the first warranty year, you dont have to pay for repairs, but you may be responsible for shipping fees.

Costs go up significantly after the first year. Through year 11, youre responsible for paying 30 percent plus 5 percent for each year from the date of purchase if you have a claim. From year 11 to year 15, youll pay 85 percent of the costs if you have a claim.

Warranties vary for Sleep Number accessories.

Who Should Purchase A Sleep Number Adjustable Bed

Adjustable beds are a great choice for people who need relief from back pain and sleep-related issues. For those looking to learn more about their sleep patterns and overall health, Sleep Numbers SleepIQ technology acts as an added resource. Couples with different sleeping preferences might also enjoy the Sleep Number adjustable beds ability to customize firmness for each side of the bed.

How Long Do Sleep Number Mattresses Last

According to Sleep Number, the mattresses should last at least 15 years. However, your mileage may vary. Some reviewers say the mattress lasted them about 10 years, while others say theyve had their Sleep Number for 20 years. Other reviewers report that the mattress didnt last them very long at all and that they experienced sagging issues.

The Sleep Number 360 Smart Bed Classic Series

The under-$1,500 Classic Series is Sleep Numbers entry-level offering, and the mattresses in this line sure feel like it. The 8-inch c2 reminds me of a dormitory bednot surprising, since it contains only 2 inches of foam the rest of the mattress is made up of air encased in the bladder. The c4 has an inch more foam, for a total of 9 inches, and feels only slightly less institutional theres nothing cuddly about it. Unless youre used to sleeping on a mat or you plan on springing for a good mattress topper, we dont recommend this series.

In 2020, Sleep Number updated its 360 Smart Beds, adding temperature-balancing featuresincluding high air-flow fabrics and gel materialsmeant to make the mattresses feel cooler and more breathable.

The Sleep Number 360 Smart Bed Performance Series

Sleep Number Queen i8 bed for sale!

The Performance Series is slightly plusher than the Classic Series. The p5 and cooling pSE each have 4 inches of cushioning, for a total height of 10 inches. The p6, the companys most popular mattress, has an additional inch of cushioning, for an overall thickness of 11 inches.

Compared with the beds in the Classic line and the Performance lines p5, the p6 felt like a real mattress, the kind with a surface thats adequately cushioned for people who are not particularly high-maintenance. But when I tried the p6 at home, I couldnt shake the feeling that I was sleeping on a rubber raft. The 5 inches of foam wasnt enough for me to nestle into, even with a softer air-bladder setting. Letting out air offered more give, but then the bed didnt feel as supportive, and it still didnt feel fluffy, per se.

I was left feeling adrift, but my husband, by contrast, loved sleeping on the p6. For once, instead of compromising on my medium-soft-mattress preferences, he could sleep on a firm mattress next to me. It was a sad day for him when we returned this mattress.

The pSE wasnt available to try at the store when I visited, but Sleep Numbers publicist said it has proprietary ClimaTemp foam that is softer and more plush than whats typically used on the p series. Unfortunately, were not sure exactly how this technology works because Sleep Number doesnt share details about its foam.

All About Sleep Number Settings

Like I mentioned above, you can adjust your mattress to the exact firmness you need, which means youll end up with a specific number between 1-100. Sleep Number calls this, unsurprisingly, your Sleep Number. A Sleep Setting of 1 would be incredibly soft and 100 would feel like sleeping on a floor. Most people have a Sleep Number between 30-60.

All of this works thanks to Sleep Numbers Firmness Control System, which includes the remote, air hose, and pump. In most cases, if you have aQueen-sized bed or larger, then youll have two separate air chambers and you and your partner can adjust each side to your personal preference. If your model has a Double-size option, then you can choose if youd like your bed to have one or two air chambers. There will also be a hose that passes through the opening of the mattress cover, which connects to the air chamber. It stays happily hidden inside the mattress, with access through the zippered opening.

You can find your Sleep Number setting at any retail Sleep Number store, or you can do it yourself at home. If youre finding it at home, here are the steps you should follow:

Lie down. Get into bed and lie down on your side. Make sure your pillows are propped as they would if you were actually sleeping

Find your setting.

If you have your remote:

  • Press the Home button
  • Use the up and down arrows to explore the different settings

If youre in the SleepIQ® app:

Customization Options And Special Features

Customization options and features vary based on the Sleep Number collection and include:

  • Flexfit, which allows users to raise their partners head to reduce snoring.
  • Under-bed lighting, which helps users find their way around at night safely with additional illumination.
  • Adjustable positions, which raise or lower portions of the bed to adjust the users overall sleeping experience.
  • Foot warming, which provides targeted, adjustable heat at the foot of the bed.

How Big Are Sleep Number Sales

Sale prices change frequently, but can be as small as $200-$300 off to Final Clearance sales that are closer to $900 and $1,200 off per Queen bed.

If you see a bed on Final Clearance that is because it is on something called a close-out. Once they are completely sold, the beds will be discontinued.

Bed Types Bases And Pricing

Sleep Number Modular P6 Mattress Set Queen

Sleep Number sells several different 360 Smart Beds, with queen sizes starting at $1,099 for the entry-level c2 Classic series model. The company offers its FlexFit adjustable bases starting at $1,499 for a queen.

The mattresses come in a range of industry-standard sizes that fit into traditional frames and furniture sets: twin , twin XL , full , queen , king , and California king .

All 360 Smart Beds feature DualAir adjustability, Responsive Air technology, and Sleep IQ tracking. The DualAir feature allows you to dial the firmness of each side independently, so if you like sleeping on a cloud and your partner prefers a brick, you can both have it your way. The Responsive Air feature monitors the bed’s air pressure level as you sleep, and automatically adjusts to maintain your desired firmness. The SleepIQ feature tracks your shut eye, heart rate, breathing, and more.

All three above-mentioned features are optional if you’re a solo sleeper, you can get a single-chamber mattress you adjust all at once. If you’re not a fan of the Responsive Air or sleep tracking features, you can easily disable them in the app.

The last time we reviewed a Sleep Number 360 Smart Bed, we tested the p5 Performance series model with a FlexFit 1 base, which is still on the market. A Sleep Number spokesperson tells me that the p5 is a popular model, and the company recently updated it with a new sleep surface for improved pressure relief.

What To Look Forward To

In 2022, Sleep Number is releasing its Climate 360 Smart Bed, which is said to be responsive to both temperature and firmness preferences. The company says the bed will have sensors to measure sleep-tracking data like your heart, heart-rate variability, and breathing rate. Among other features, the mattress will automatically adjust firmness in response to your movements, and warm or cool the bed based on your body temperature. Sleep Number also now offers a kids bed.

What We Think About Sleep Number Mattresses

In general, we think you can get a more comfortable mattress for a lot less. But if you insist on Sleep Numbers adjustability because you and your partner cant compromise on a firmness level, and you have a flexible budget, we think only the Performance Series and Innovation Series mattresses and the Cooling Memory Foam mattress are worth considering. The less expensive Classic Series mattresses and the Value Bed lines are just too thin for most people. If you like a plush mattress with good support, then you should spend more for the Innovation Series beds, which have thicker cushioning.

Beyond SleepIQ, Sleep Numbers marketing also touts technology that claims to help you fall asleep faster with a foot-warming feature. You can also theoretically control your partners snoring by raising the upper portion of their side of the bed. However, these features are available only with the companys adjustable bases , which cost between $1,200 and $2,400 for a queen.

Heres how the mattresses themselves compare to one another:
