Owner Review Feedback For Sleep Number Mattresses

Sleep Number iLE bed Assembly & Review

Sleep Number mattresses are typically purchased directly from Sleep Number, so thats where we found the majority of the online reviews. Out of the 34 good-quality negative user reviews we collected about the Classic Series , 10 contained complaints about issues related to a lack of cushioning. This included reviewers describing the mattress as too firm, too thin, bottoming out, or having poor pressure relief. Several reviewers pointed out that the c series is especially problematic for heavier-weight sleepers, and others noted the support felt better once they added a mattress topper.

For negative feedback on the Performance Series, we found far fewer complaints related specifically to the mattress thinness . But four out of 26 good-quality negative Innovation Series reviews noted that the mattresses were too firm or offered poor pressure relief. Perhaps this is to be expected, given that these users paid much more for their mattresses and therefore expected more. Three out of the six Cooling Memory Foam owners complained that their mattresses were either too thin, too firm, or lacked pressure relief.

The iLE bed is at the top of the Innovation line for Sleep Number. It comes with multiple foam layers over the air support system. It is softer than other mattresses so may not be right if you are a stomach sleeper or of a heavy build. Most folks liked their iLE bed, but some had issues with the feel and durability.

Sleep Number 360 C2 Smart Bed

  • Price: $
  • Height: 8 inches

Mattresses in the Classic Series are billed as the comfortable, adjustable, affordable Sleep Number option.

The c2 Smart Bed has a 2-inch gel-infused comfort layer, which might feel thin if youre used to a more generous pillow top. Like all Sleep Number mattresses, this one responds to your movements and automatically adjusts firmness.

Despite the slim comfort layer, over 11,000 reviews rank the c2 Smart Bed 4.6 out of 5 stars. More than 9,000 of these reviews are 5 stars, with customers calling it a great investment. Other reviewers love having the freedom to adjust their settings for specific comfort.

Negative reviews describe general discomfort and aches and pains. However, customer service responds to these reviews and invites unhappy customers to contact the company directly for assistance.

Sleep Number 360 I8 Smart Mattress

The Innovation 360 Smart Bed i8 has a 6″ comfort layer with two different types of foam for support and pressure relief. There is also a special material in the surface of the mattress that releases heat so the mattress keeps its cool.

The i8 and the iLE have the same, deep 6-inch comfort layer. The comfort layer in the i10 is 7 inches thick. Overall, these are the plushest mattresses in the entire brand.

Getting In Bed With The Competition

Sleep Number 360 iLE Limited Edition Smart Bed for Sale in ...

Here’s the thing, though. You can get a lot of the same sleep-tracking functionality from a much less expensive product. Eight sells mattresses, but its main smart device is its Sleep Tracker mattress pad.Ashlee Clark Thompson reviewed both the Eight Mars+ mattress and the Sleep Tracker mattress pad.

For just $419 in a king size and $399 in a queen size, the Eight Sleep Tracker retrofits to existing mattresses and tells you how you slept each night and even has an integrated heating element to keep you warm . The negative is that you’re missing all of that customization with the mattress firmness and the motorized base you get from Sleep Number, but you can use whatever frame and mattress you want with the Eight Sleep Tracker, so you still have tons of options. Eight’s Sleep Tracker also works with Alexa, IFTTT and Nest so you can connect your bed to more devices in your home.

The $199 Beautyrest Sleeptracker works similarly to Eight’s version, but it’s a device you put under your mattress, rather than a pad you fit over the entire mattress. You need one Beautyrest Sleeptracker per person, and you automatically get two with your $199 purchase . Beautyrest’s Sleeptracker only works with Alexa, though, and Molly Price said its tracking wasn’t as reliable as she expected during testing.

Unlike Sleep Number and Eight, you have to buy the Winkbed mattress to use the bed’s temperature control feature.

Most Popular Sleep Number Beds

The most popular beds in the Sleep Number brand are the Classic 360® c2 and the Innovation 360® i8 Smart Bed. The first makes the list because it offers a lot of design for the price. The second does because it has every Sleep Number bell and whistle they offer.

Classic 360® c2

The Classic 360® c2 is the baseline model among all Sleep Number 360 beds. No fancy foam layers. No expensive base. Just 2 inches of fabric and foam on top of the eponymous, adjustable air chamber that basically makes a Sleep Number bed. Its affordable for a Sleep Number mattress and you can still adjust ho firm it feels. Its a budget option, but one with the most attractive mattress feature Sleep Number sells.

Innovation 360® Smart Bed i8

The Innovation 360® Smart Bed i8 is 12 inches thick with a soft and breathable fabric cover. The 6-inch comfort layer in the i8 uses two different types of foam for support and pressure relief. There is also a special material in the surface of the mattress that releases heat so the mattress keeps its cool. This bed has the dual air chambers that you can adjust to find the right firmness, SleepIQ® tracking, the temperature-balancing surface and the Responsive Air® feature that will add or release air as you shift at night to make the bed more comfortable.

Which Sleep Number Bed Is Best

Now to the real meat of it! Here is a breakdown of every Sleep Number bed so you can figure out what is best for you.

For Firm Loves, Without Bells and Whistles

The C Classic series mattresses will be the most affordable option, but also the most limiting. These beds will be on the firmest end of the spectrum and come with the least amount of bells and whistles. Still, this could be a great option if youre on a budget but still want the ability to adjust the level of air pressure in your mattress with the click of a button.

The Sleep Number c2 Bed:

The c2 bed does not come with a foam mattress pad on top of the air chamber. Instead, it has a soft fiberfill sewn into a thin layer right above the air chambers. This is a great option for people who love firm beds especially side sleepers. Many reviewers said the bed did a great job at helping alleviate back pain by providing ample and firm support. Others spoke to the beds longevity and a few were happy with the price point being more manageable than comparable beds.

Lastly, the c2 includes a 15-Year Limited Warranty, which means any damage to the bed due to a manufacturing or material issue will be covered by Sleep Number for the first two years. After that, a percentage of the cost will be replaced or refunded up to 15 years based on the type of damage reported.

Trial Period And Returns

Sleep Number gives you 100 nights to test drive their beds. There are a lot of moving parts built into a Sleep Number bed. We would recommend you take 30 nights of sleeping before deciding whether to keep any mattress. We would recommend taking at least that amount of time for the Sleep Number. You may need some time to figure out which number/firmness at which you sleep most comfortably.

If you decide the mattress, or any of the individual layers, doesnt work for you, just initiate a return within 100 days. Sleep Number has to authorize it before you can expect a return. Once you initiate a return, you have 30 days to get it back to Sleep Number. You will pay to return your mattress. After all of that, and after your returns have arrived at Sleep Number, youll have to wait 21 days for your refund.

But you can exchange your mattress for an upgrade or downgrade. Youll have to pay the difference for the upgrade. Youll get a refund of some portion of the difference if you choose a lower-priced model.

A Mattress For Every Type Of Sleeper

Sleep Number Special Edition w/ADAT SK Adjustable Mattress Set with Rick Domeier

The 360 Smart Bed is available in a number of iterations and sizes. You can choose between full-split, top-split, and no-split mattresses, depending on whether you sleep alone or with a partner, in sizes ranging from twin to California king. Prices start at $1,399 and go as high as $5,699 for the mattress itself adding a base costs extra.

We tested a full-size, no-split p5 mattress with a FlexFit 1 base. With home installation and delivery included, it came to a total of $3,896.62. The p5 is a medium-support mattress with a four-inch comfort layer and a profile height of 10 inches. More premium models, like the i8 and i10, come with higher profiles and thicker comfort layers, and are made of cooling materials. You don’t have to buy a base , but keep in mind that you can’t use these mattresses with box springs.

The Best Night’s Sleep

If you’re looking for a better night’s sleep, the Sleep Number 360 Smart Bed will likely get you there on its sheer comfort factor alone. It also provides your personal sleeping metrics, as well as insights into how to build better sleep habits. It requires a bit of active participation on your part, but of all the sleep tech I’ve tested so far, it’s been the most effective at improving my overall sleep quality.

That said, it’s quite a hefty investmentyou’re looking at $1,400 at the bare minimum. This is softened by a 100-day trial period and a 25-year limited warranty, but it’s a heck of a lot more expensive than your average fitness tracker or smartwatch. But keep in mind you have to remember to wear a tracker to bed every night, which not everyone finds comfortable, and is probably the same time you usually charge it.

For a less expensive alternative, we recommend the Eight Sleep Smart Mattress. It isn’t adjustable like the Sleep Number, but it tracks similar metrics for a significantly lower cost. You can get it in a mattress bundle, or the just the tracking device itself, earning our Editors’ Choice for its functionality and versatility.

Sleep Number 360 P5 Smart Bed

  • Price: $$
  • Type: adjustable air bed
  • Height: 10 inches

Designed for pressure relief, the p5 Smart Bed has a 4-inch comfort layer that contours to your body. It has all the same adjustable features as other Sleep Number mattresses.

Close to 12,000 reviews rate this mattress 4.7 out of 5 stars. Again, over 9,000 of these reviews are 5 stars. Reviewers praise the mattresss comfort and adjustability.

Unhappy customers describe the mattress as noisy and uncomfortable.

About Sleep Number Warranty

Sleep Number provides warranty packages for their various products. Well quickly review the Core Line mattress warranty, the 360 Smart Beds warranty, and the 360 Smart Bed remotes warranty. For the full story, read my detailed post on Sleep Number warranties.

Lets get into the main need-to-knows, along with the pros and cons, so you feel truly confident when buying your bed and the warranty that comes with it:

Core Line 15 Year Limited Warranty

In a nutshell, Sleep Number will repair or replace your c2 or c4 bed if theres a defect that wasnt caused by human error. In other words, if something wrong happens to the bed that was due to a production error, thats on the Sleep Number crew. This will be completely covered for the first two years.

From year 3-15 of the limited warranty, you will become responsible to pay for a portion of the repair and replacement cost. Sleep Number calculates the exact amount based on the then-current prices of each product. This warranty also covers the Firmness Control system that is a part of the mattress.

360 Smart Bed 15 Year Limited Warranty

Most of the same rules apply for the 360® smart bed warranty. Additionally, any tech-related issues that arise that are related to defects in materials or workmanship with the SleepIQ module will be covered. However, after two years, nothing related to SleepIQ will be covered.

Sleep Number Mattresses Pros And Cons

Sleep Number 360 iLE Limited Edition Smart Bed for Sale in ...

In a sense, Sleep Number mattresses are just like any other: The top section is the comfort layer, while the bottom section provides support.

But instead of using layers of supportive foam or an innerspring system, the bottom portion of a Sleep Number mattress features an adjustable air chamber. It can be inflated or deflated to your preferred level of firmness.

Unfortunately, Sleep Number doesnt disclose what the comfort layer is made of. Reviewers describe it as cushiony but not necessarily plush. Some Sleep Number mattresses have thicker comfort layers.

The Sleep Number 360 Smart Bed Performance Series

The Performance Series is slightly plusher than the Classic Series. The p5 and cooling pSE each have 4 inches of cushioning, for a total height of 10 inches. The p6, the companys most popular mattress, has an additional inch of cushioning, for an overall thickness of 11 inches.

Compared with the beds in the Classic line and the Performance lines p5, the p6 felt like a real mattress, the kind with a surface thats adequately cushioned for people who are not particularly high-maintenance. But when I tried the p6 at home, I couldnt shake the feeling that I was sleeping on a rubber raft. The 5 inches of foam wasnt enough for me to nestle into, even with a softer air-bladder setting. Letting out air offered more give, but then the bed didnt feel as supportive, and it still didnt feel fluffy, per se.

I was left feeling adrift, but my husband, by contrast, loved sleeping on the p6. For once, instead of compromising on my medium-soft-mattress preferences, he could sleep on a firm mattress next to me. It was a sad day for him when we returned this mattress.

The pSE wasnt available to try at the store when I visited, but Sleep Numbers publicist said it has proprietary ClimaTemp foam that is softer and more plush than whats typically used on the p series. Unfortunately, were not sure exactly how this technology works because Sleep Number doesnt share details about its foam.

What Is The Sleep Number Mattress Price

Finally, after all of the pros and cons of the Sleep Number mattress reviews, lets talk about the Sleep Number bed cost and sizingoptions. Heres a list of the companys c2 mattress pricing options :

  • Twin – $599
  • King – $1999
  • Cal King – $1999

The prices do tend to make sense, given the products in question. While the pricetags for the c2 model are completely rational, some people might find the c4 numbers to be a bit high.

Do keep in mind that theres also a shipping fee in addition to the Sleep Number bed cost. However, the company offers a 100-night sleep trial period. This means that youll be able to test the mattress for more than 3 months before deciding whether or not it suits your expectations.

Also, its worth mentioning the 25-year warranty. Since most mattress-providing companies go with a 10-year warranty, this fact alone should give a potential customer some confidence with Sleep Number.

Who Might Not Want To Consider This Mattress:

People Who Are on a Budget. The I-LE is the second most expensive Sleep Number model. It retails at $5299.00 for a Queen size mattress. It has a lot to offer and customers seem to really enjoy this mattress. However, if people are trying to save money, it may not the best fit.

The I-8 mattress may be the closest to the I-LE, but Sleep Number sells other Queen mattresses for less than $1,000 and several for under $3000, including the popular P-5 mattress.

Sleep Number Bed Reviews: Pros

Lets start analyzing the Sleep Number reviews from the positive side of things. As mentioned in the beginning, there are definitely better alternatives.

Before we do that, however, let me quickly reiterate something that Id mentioned in the introductory part of this article – for the sake of providing a thorough and in-depth look into the most trustworthy Sleep Number bed reviews, and to avoid any possible confusion, well be analyzing only the reviews that have to do with the Classic series.

There are two models that well be looking at – the c2 and the c4. One of the bigger differences between the two mattresses is that the c4 model has a slightly thicker comfort layer than its counterpart.

So then, with that out of the way, lets talk benefits.
