The Sleep Number 360 Ile Smart Bed Changing Experience
As smart as the Sleep Number beds are, they do not clean themselves. As with other bedding, you must remove the blankets and sheets, pillowcases and mattress cover and wash them. Once washed, you must make up your bed.
First of all, the sheets and pillowcases are high qualitysoft and snuggly, seemingly robustit is unclear how they will wear over time. Still, given the general quality of Sleep Number products, I am sure they will wear as well, if not better, than those from other brands.
However, the time it takes to reinstall the mattress pad and fitted sheets on a FlexTop California King bed proves surprisingly long and arduous. If I was not very tall, I think my much more diminutive wife might need a neighbor to help her put the sheets on.
The mattresss FlexTop split is in the top, middle. The sheets are extra-long and have elastic bands to secure them in place. Luckily, once in place, they do tend to stay where they were put, despite the daily movement of the bed. But putting them in place under the edge of the split top takes some stretching. Most people want to avoid leaning on the sheet when tucking under an opposite corner. This bed has corners in the middle that require some contortions, even for me, to put them in place. I always remove my Apple Watch for fear of snagging it on the headboard as I coerce the sheet into place.

The iLE bed is at the top of the Innovation line for Sleep Number. It comes with multiple foam layers over the air support system. It is softer than other mattresses so may not be right if you are a stomach sleeper or of a heavy build. Most folks liked their iLE bed, but some had issues with the feel and durability.

The Sleep Number 360 Smart Bed Classic Series
The under-$1,500 Classic Series is Sleep Numbers entry-level offering, and the mattresses in this line sure feel like it. The 8-inch c2 reminds me of a dormitory bednot surprising, since it contains only 2 inches of foam the rest of the mattress is made up of air encased in the bladder. The c4 has an inch more foam, for a total of 9 inches, and feels only slightly less institutional theres nothing cuddly about it. Unless youre used to sleeping on a mat or you plan on springing for a good mattress topper, we dont recommend this series.
In 2020, Sleep Number updated its 360 Smart Beds, adding temperature-balancing featuresincluding high air-flow fabrics and gel materialsmeant to make the mattresses feel cooler and more breathable.

Numbers Are Tricky Things
I think my bed mostly understands me, perhaps better than I know me. Sleeping on my side with my shoulder and hip pain was the impetus for our long-term investment in a Sleep Number mattress. I argued that we spend more time sleeping than any other activity, so even at $6,650, the bed is a better investment than the much more expensive cars that we are still paying on during the pandemic to drive around the corner to the grocery store.
I dont regret the price as a number. I think people should spend more on their sleeping. Get a bed you enjoy because if you dont, it will likely reflect on your feelings of joy in everything else you do.
As for my Sleep Number, the number adequately reflects my preferences. I sleep much deeper and more contoured than my wife. I wanted a mattress that would hug. I have spent hundreds of nights in hotels. I love a mattress that you fall into, burrowing into its embrace. The Sleep Number beds mechanics take away from that metaphor to some degree, but for the most part, I really enjoy sleeping in my Sleep Number 360 iLE smart bed .

The Innovation 360 Smart Bed i8 has a 6″ comfort layer with two different types of foam for support and pressure relief. There is also a special material in the surface of the mattress that releases heat so the mattress keeps its cool.
The i8 and the iLE have the same, deep 6-inch comfort layer. The comfort layer in the i10 is 7 inches thick. Overall, these are the plushest mattresses in the entire brand.

We bought our iLE Sleep Number around a year ago as our primary bed. We caught the Labor Day sale which the bed was half off. We could not be happier. I was little cautious about buying a bed with a pillow top, but its been year and still in perfect condition. I also liked that you can unzip the pillow top and move it around or even replace it if you ever need to do so. It took us a little time to find our Sleep Number and it ranges within 5-10 on the number scale, but overall its a great sleeping experience. I read a lot of reviews both good & bad before purchasing which helped with understanding how the bed works. It cut down the adjustment time considerably. I recommend reading the reviews before you purchase and considering all options. For us the iLE turned out to be a good investment so far.

For Firm Loves, Without Bells and Whistles
The C Classic series mattresses will be the most affordable option, but also the most limiting. These beds will be on the firmest end of the spectrum and come with the least amount of bells and whistles. If you’re looking for a better night’s sleep, the Sleep Number 360 Smart Bed will likely get you there on its sheer comfort factor alone. It also provides your personal sleeping metrics, as well as insights into how to build better sleep habits. It requires a bit of active participation on your part, but of all the sleep tech I’ve tested so far, it’s been the most effective at improving my overall sleep quality.
That said, it’s quite a hefty investmentyou’re looking at $1,400 at the bare minimum. This is softened by a 100-day trial period and a 25-year limited warranty, but it’s a heck of a lot more expensive than your average fitness tracker or smartwatch. But keep in mind you have to remember to wear a tracker to bed every night, which not everyone finds comfortable, and is probably the same time you usually charge it.
For a less expensive alternative, we recommend the Eight Sleep Smart Mattress. It isn’t adjustable like the Sleep Number, but it tracks similar metrics for a significantly lower cost.
