Sleep Number Classic Series C2 Vs Personal Comfort A2 Bed

Assemble Sleep Number 360® Smart Mattress & FlexFit Adjustable Base

Both the Sleep Number Classic Series c2 and Personal Comfort A2 mattresses are airbeds. Like Sleep Number, Personal Comfort exclusively produces airbeds with customizable firmness levels to suit your weight and sleep position, but Personal Comforts prices tend to be lower. The A2 is part of Personal Comforts Classic Series, which is the most affordable of the brands five airbed lines.

The A2 is 9 thick, is dual-sided, and has a 1 comfort layer. The c2 by Sleep Number is 8 thick, is dual-sided, and has a 2 gel-infused comfort layer. Overall, the beds are very similar in construction, but the Sleep Number c2 devotes a bit more material to the comfort layer and is, surprisingly, more affordable than the Personal Comfort A2.

Adjustable Base Assembly Instructions

Place The Foam Walls And Base Pad

With your mattress top open, begin building the structure of your bed. First, make sure the notches or corner lock mechanism located at the ends of each wall face inwards, as they help give shape to and complete the rest of the wall support. Next, start with placing the long foam sidewalls along each side of the bed, followed by the end walls. Once the side and end walls are secured in place, lay the base pad flat in the middle part of the mattress.

To prevent any foam from folding, shake the base pad out before laying it into the bottom of the mattress cover. If it is dual-sided a textured side and a smooth side then make sure the smooth side faces downwards and the smooth side upwards. Also, do not forget to place the air chambers on top later on, with both hose connections facing the head of the bed. With these three parts placed properly, you will now have full access to the inside of the case, which will allow you to begin layering the bed and installing air technology.

The Sleep Number Value Beds

sleep: 17+ Sleep Number I8 Split King Assembly Pictures

The Value Bed line is Sleep Numbers bed in a box option. The company is planning to discontinue it in the near future, but for now, given the current coronavirus crisis, it has gained in popularity because of its contact-free delivery. The Value lines s1 and the s3 mattresses cost about the same as the beds in the Classic line, but they have a quilted cushion layer . That quilted layer is zoned to cater to various pressure points there are five different cushioned areas in the s1 and seven in the s3. The company doesnt divulge details about its foam, so were not sure how the zones differ. But we do know that this comfort portion isnt thicker than the 2 inches we found wanting in the Classic lines entry-level c2, and the air pump sits on the floor, as opposed to being integrated into the mattress itself, like with the other lines. And although the Value line comes with SleepIQ technology, the Value Beds dont have the smart feature that allows them to conform to your body as you shift positions. We havent tried this line, but given how spartan the c line felt, we cant imagine that any amount of quilting or zoning would compensate for the thin comfort layer.

Disassembling The Adjustable / Modular Base

  • 1Remove all the mattress retainers. The retainers are whatâs holding the mattress in place. Use a 7/16 inch socket to loosen the hex bolts holding the mattress cover bottom to the adjustable base.XResearch source Set aside the bolts and hardware components somewhere safe to use them when rebuilding the bed. This completes the disassembly process for your Sleep Number bed if using an adjustable base.
  • Proceed with the remaining steps if disassembling a modular base.
  • 2Slide all decking panels off the bed frame. Each decking panel slides directly off the bed to the left or right.XResearch source You should not need any tools to slide the decking panels off.
  • 3Remove the legs and side rails. Unscrew the wing nuts and detach the legs from the base of the bed frame. Slide out all pins from the side rails and support beams, and add to the bag of hardware components.
  • Place all decking panels and support beams into a packing box. This will help prevent the components from accruing damage during transport.XResearch source

If Applicable: Place Corner Lock System In Place

Some bed sizes, like the double bed, have a corner locking system instead of the notched side walls. These are placed on the bottom of the mattress cover in each corner. Without these your walls will not be stable, so make sure you have them in place. If you have notched side walls, then your bed will not have these locking systems.

How To Assemble A Sleep Number® FlexFit Base

Before we jump into recommendations, its important to note that the experience of sleeping on an airbed can feel quite different from that of more traditional mattress styles, like all-foam or hybrid beds. If you love memory foam, for example, an airbed wont provide the same enveloping feeling you enjoy, regardless of how thick the comfort layers are.

Secondly, if you enjoy cuddling with your partner while you sleep, the dual air chambers may impede that and can feel uncomfortable. Lastly, these airbeds arent for people with a limited budget, considering the most affordable Smart Bed option starts at $999.

Who Might Not Want To Consider This Mattress:

People Who Are on a Budget. The I-LE is the second most expensive Sleep Number model. It retails at $5299.00 for a Queen size mattress. It has a lot to offer and customers seem to really enjoy this mattress. However, if people are trying to save money, it may not the best fit.

The I-8 mattress may be the closest to the I-LE, but Sleep Number sells other Queen mattresses for less than $1,000 and several for under $3000, including the popular P-5 mattress.

What We Love About The Sleep Number C:

    • The Sleep Number C2 is incredibly affordable considering the technology that it offers. Youll be hard-pressed to find an adjustable smart bed at a lower price.
    • With DualAiradjustability, you and your partner can sleep on the same mattress with different firmness levels.
    • Thanks to the minimal padding and ample airflow through the air chambers, the C2 is one of the best mattresses for hot sleepers.
    • The Sleep Number C2 comes equipped with sleep tracking functions known as SleepIQ technology. For tech-savvy sleepers who want to fine-tune their sleep for optimal health and energy, SleepIQ can help.

    Set Up Firmness Control System

The Firmness Control System can now be set up and connected to the air chambers. Repeating for the right and left sides of the bed , connect the hoses together by pushing them until you hear a click- ensuring they have created a seal. You may have to feed, or pull, part of the hose through the opening, which is why they are there in the first place.

Sleep Number mattresses are pricier than many nonadjustable mattresses. Youll pay about $899 to $4,299 for a queen-size mattress.

Will My L& P Adjustable Bed Base Work With An Air Mattress

Yes. L& P adjustable bed bases are compatible with most innerspring, foam, and air mattresses. Today, many people prefer an innerspring or hybrid spring/foam mattress. But everyone is different, and some people find their bliss sleeping on foam or air-filled mattresses. Regardless of which you find most comfortable, you can still enjoy the restorative relaxation offered by an adjustable bed base. If possible, its a good idea to purchase your mattress and an adjustable bed base at the same time to create a personalized sleep system. The process and logistics associated with buying a mattress online are different from the traditional brick-and-mortar experience. For customers, it tends to be more convenient to buy online, but there can be some confusion about exactly how it works.

The next three sections cover topics that are frequently asked about by people who are shopping for a mattress online for the first time.

    Moving Your Sleep Number Bed

It may not be necessary to disassemble your Sleep Number bed entirely in some situations. A perfect example is when you need to move your bed to a different part of your room or a separate room. All you will need are Sleep Number closure caps to move your mattress in one piece. These air chamber/closure caps are small white plastic caps that come with your bed.

You will find them in your mattress at the top of your bed or the foot of your bed by the Firmness Control System if you have a smart bed. If you cannot find them or have lost the caps, you can visit any Sleep Number store or order from authorized Sleep Number distributors online.

When moving your bed, it is essential to fill the mattress on both sides to 100. Afterward, you can disconnect the hoses from your mattress and attach the air chamber caps. For FlexFit 3 bases, disconnecting foot-warming connections located near the hose connections is required. Once you have capped off the connector hoses on the mattress, you need to detach the mattress from the base and bag it. Next, you need to disconnect and box your pump . Finally, you need to separate your bases and remove your beds legs for easier clearance through doorways.

This video by Sleep Number shares important safety warning and instructions for disconnecting the magnetic attachments on your Sleep Number bed:

    Sleep Number Modular Base

For a more affordable base option, Sleep Number also provides a modular base that takes the place of a normal box spring. Its extra firm and durable to hold the weight of a Sleep Number mattress, which can range in from 37 to 120 pounds, depending on the model and size. Sleep Number also claims these bases can last for 25 years.

They start at $199 and go up to $399 for a King. You can add legs, which will raise the bed and allow for more storage space, which will cost another $80-159.99, depending on size.

Owner Review Feedback For Sleep Number Mattresses

Sleep Number mattresses are typically purchased directly from Sleep Number, so thats where we found the majority of the online reviews. Out of the 34 good-quality negative user reviews we collected about the Classic Series , 10 contained complaints about issues related to a lack of cushioning. This included reviewers describing the mattress as too firm, too thin, bottoming out, or having poor pressure relief. Several reviewers pointed out that the c series is especially problematic for heavier-weight sleepers, and others noted the support felt better once they added a mattress topper.

For negative feedback on the Performance Series, we found far fewer complaints related specifically to the mattress thinness . But four out of 26 good-quality negative Innovation Series reviews noted that the mattresses were too firm or offered poor pressure relief. Perhaps this is to be expected, given that these users paid much more for their mattresses and therefore expected more. Three out of the six Cooling Memory Foam owners complained that their mattresses were either too thin, too firm, or lacked pressure relief.

Split Queen Vs Queen Adjustable Beds

A standard queen size adjustable mattress measures 60 inches wide by 80 inches long. A typical split queen adjustable bed uses two 30-inch by 80-inch mattresses to achieve the same surface area as a regular queen size bed. With a split queen, each mattress can be adjusted independently.

While luxury features are available for both split queen and queen adjustable beds, models may vary in terms of specific features.

    Sleep Number C2 Performance Highlights

    Pros

    • Adjustable firmness: With 100 firmness options to choose from, the Sleep Number C2 delivers exceptional customization. Using the adjustable air chambers, you can experiment until you find the right feel for you. Whats more, the firmness can be adjusted from one day to the next for changing needs.
    • Dual air chambers: Couples rarely have the exact same mattress needs. Double-sized Sleep Number beds and larger have dual sided adjustability, meaning you and your partner can each choose your own firmness.
    • Low-cost air mattress: The C2 is Sleep Numbers least expensive mattress. At less than $1,000 for a queen-sizeC2 mattress, you can reap the benefits of dual adjustability, responsive air technology, and sleep tracking without breaking the bank.
    • Motion isolation: Thanks to individual air chambers on each side of the mattress , the C2 mattress doesnt spread movement from one side of the bed to the other. By limiting motion transfer, it helps couples sleep together peacefully.
    • Responsive: The C2 mattress has technology within that adjusts to your every move. This responsiveness makes it easy to reposition seamlessly at night, great for combination sleepers and those who toss and turn.
    • Sleeps cool: Air mattresses tend to sleep cooler than all other mattress types. And thanks to the minimal foam layers in the C2, its the coolest of the Sleep Number mattresses.

Keeps Your Feet Warm And Your Body Cool

Sleep Number Split King Adjustable Bed

If you’re always cold, you’re probably going to want the FlexFit 3 for its signature foot-warming feature, which isn’t available on the company’s other adjustable bases. As its name suggests, this feature warms just the foot end of the bed. It takes around 15 to 30 minutes to heat up. “Research has shown that having your feet gently warmed may help you fall asleep faster,” Sleep Number says.

With a dual-chamber mattress, you can individually control this feature on each side, so one person can have the foot warmer turned on and the other can have it turned off.

In testing, this feature has worked wonderfully. I have it set to High, and it gets toasty but not too hot. My one gripe is that you can only enable this feature as part of a Routine in the SleepIQ app. And since it’s only available in the Routines section of the Bed tab, it’s a bit hard to find.

To enable it, navigate to Bed > View Routines > Create a New Schedule. From there, you can select certain days of the week, set your bedtime, and set the foot warming temperature . After creating your Routine, the foot warmer will turn on 30 minutes before your bedtime, so it’s ready when you hop in. As you fall asleep, it will automatically cool down.

If you want to turn it on outside of your normal bedtime, you have to create a new Routine, which is sort of a hassle. I wish there was a button in the app to let you turn it on and off whenever you want.
