Going with the C2 and adding my own bells and whistles
Very grateful for Candid Reviewer’s advice. We were interested in the C2 after seeing the excellent rating it received from Consumer Reports, with high marks for durability, side and back sleeping. We went to the sleep number store, stuck to our plan and avoided being up- sold, and bought both the recommended fiber topper and a gel topper to experiment with once the C2 arrives. We also are using our old metal frame with a queen-size bunkie board , for a nice savings compared to the $300 foundation from sleep number. More $ for new sheets and bedding!

Best bed I ever had. I’m a big person 300 Plus pounds…At year 10 the pump went out and I called…they still had my info and sold me a new pump at 1/2 price. It’s went through 2 moves and is still great! My husband is also big so it stands up to heavy folks. Folks on the phone were friendly and helpful. I’m looking now to buy my son one.

How To Attach A Headboard To An Adjustable Split King Mattress
This is a home design and DIY blog after all even if its the most comfortable bed in the world, I still want it to look good.
I looked at a lot of different adjustable bases before we settled on ours: . While some of the more expensive ones allow you to attach a headboard directly to the base, I just wasnt willing to part with that much extra cash when I could just as easily attach a headboard to the wall.
And thats exactly what I did.
One of my favorite DIY projects of all time was the absolutely massive upholstered headboard I made from a scrap project panel, some inexpensive curtains, and a clearance mattress pad from Home Goods.
I attached this behemoth headboard to the wall with a french cleat, and its rock solid. The adjustable mattress doesnt mess with it at all, and I get the added functionality of the split king base along with the wonderful looks of the headboard.

Sleep Number Modular Base
For a more affordable base option, Sleep Number also provides a modular base that takes the place of a normal box spring. Its extra firm and durable to hold the weight of a Sleep Number mattress, which can range in from 37 to 120 pounds, depending on the model and size. Sleep Number also claims these bases can last for 25 years.
They start at $199 and go up to $399 for a King. You can add legs, which will raise the bed and allow for more storage space, which will cost another $80-159.99, depending on size.
The Sleep Number Innovation Series
The Innovation Series is Sleep Numbers highest-end, plushest line. Although these mattresses arguably dont feel as plush as most foam or innerspring mattresses of similar price, the beds in this line actually feel like nice mattresses. If I were set on a Sleep Number mattress and could afford to do so, Id spend more for the Innovation lines added cushioning. But for someone like my husband, who just wants something adjustable and comfortable enough to sleep on, a less-expensive p6 would do just fine.
The i8 comes with 6 inches of foam and a temperature-balancing surface , and it felt pleasantly pillowy. The i10, with its additional inch of foam, was just a tad fluffier. Like the pSE from the companys Performance line, the iLE is not a typical fixture in-store, and it, too, has the ClimaTemp foam, described by the company as softer and more cooling.

How To Make The Bed With An Adjustable Split King Mattress
I actually think making a split king is easier than a regular king. If you raise the head adjustment all the way up, the corners of the mattress are almost at eye level, making it even easier to place the sheets on.
Youll definitely need twin xl sheets, and if you use the strap method described above to get rid of the gap, there will be a small section in the middle that doesnt wrap all the way around the mattress. It really doesnt matter though, since its always covered by a duvet.
