Sleep Number S1 Bed Reviews

Sleep Number Series/model Breakdown

Sleep Number Bed 1 Month Review

Sleep Number offers two types of beds:

  • 360® Smart Beds
  • Value Beds

The 360® Smart Beds are organized into three categories: Classic, Performance, and Innovation.

Each series essentially builds off the other. The Classic Series beds, the C2, and C4 offer the most standard options while the Innovation Series has the largest, thickest layers and most added features.

Classic Series:

The Classic series models are the most basic mattresses. They will have the firmest feel to them because there is the least amount of layers between the air chamber and the top of the mattress.

C-2
72 x 84 split only at the head of the bed

The Split and FlexTop mattresses are best paired with a FlexFit Adjustable Base. For example, with a Split King, the sleeper can raise/lower just the head and feet of his or her side of the bed. If the persons partner is snoring, he or she could raise the head of just their side with a FlexTop.

Quick Overview Of Sleep Number:

The sleep number is a miraculous invention in the world of mattresses. It is talked about because of its hi-tech alterable firmness technology that is controlled by a remote control device by adjusting numbers on both sides of the bed. However, over a couple of years, the mattresses have become smarter with the flow of mind boggling technological advancements by each passing day.

This advancement brought the concept of tracking sleep patterns and automatic moderation of mattress while sleeping. Most of the people are satisfied with this amazing technology while, simultaneously, we have a handful of users that are unhappy with the quality of the mattress. Sleep Numbers invention took the technology of the mattresses to another level. The option of adjustable rigidity of the mattress is one of the unimaginable tasks that not only became true but in a user-friendly manner.

The designers turned it into a blessing rather than luxury by adding ultra-smart features like sleep tracking, automated adjustments of numbers while sleeping to provide comfortable posture as well as temperature control that can sense the heat from the body and regulate it then n there. These extraordinary features caught the attention of consumers. At the same time, some of the users highlighted the flaws in the quality of air bladders and electronics that were faltering before the expected time.

You Might Not Want To Consider This Mattress If:

  • You are a side sleeper. Despite providing more cushion than beds in the Classic Series, several customers said the 2 comfort layer between the mattress top and the air chambers in the P-5 wasnt enough to support side sleepers. They still woke up with pain in their hips and back despite the areas designated for contouring that part of the body.
  • You sleep hot. There was a good amount of feedback from people who felt the mattress was too hot. This is not something I noticed in reviews for other mattresses from the classic series like the C-4 or the CSE.

The Sleep Number Value Beds

The Value Bed line is Sleep Numbers bed in a box option. The company is planning to discontinue it in the near future, but for now, given the current coronavirus crisis, it has gained in popularity because of its contact-free delivery. The Value lines s1 and the s3 mattresses cost about the same as the beds in the Classic line, but they have a quilted cushion layer . That quilted layer is zoned to cater to various pressure points there are five different cushioned areas in the s1 and seven in the s3. The company doesnt divulge details about its foam, so were not sure how the zones differ. But we do know that this comfort portion isnt thicker than the 2 inches we found wanting in the Classic lines entry-level c2, and the air pump sits on the floor, as opposed to being integrated into the mattress itself, like with the other lines. And although the Value line comes with SleepIQ technology, the Value Beds dont have the smart feature that allows them to conform to your body as you shift positions. We havent tried this line, but given how spartan the c line felt, we cant imagine that any amount of quilting or zoning would compensate for the thin comfort layer.

What Is A Sleep Number Setting

Sleep number S3 – One Month Review with Bed Set Up

Your personal Sleep Number setting will help you feel supported, comfortable, and well-aligned when laying on your mattress. Your Sleep Number will change depending on how firm you like your mattress and is set by inflating or deflating the air chambers inside your mattress.

You can find your ideal Sleep Number setting by lying back and selecting the Find My Sleep Number feature on your SleepIQ app, which comes with every purchase. Your mattress will then become firmer as the air chambers inflate and, once it has reached maximum firmness, it will then start getting softer as the air chambers deflate.

When you feel at your most comfortable and supported, you press Stop and your Sleep Number setting will be saved to the app.

Sleep Number settings range from 0 100, with 100 being the firmest setting. Sleep Number reports that their most popular setting is in the 35 40 range, but this is completely dependent on your personal preferences and what position you prefer to sleep in.

Leesa With Adjustable Base

An incredible choice for hot, back and side sleepers, theLeesa with Adjustable Base is a popular and comfortable all-foam mattress. It brings with it an excellent balance of support and comfort making it a highly versatile choice for various types of sleepers.

Although it is all foam, it does a remarkable job of sleeping cool. Leesa utilizes a proprietary and high-quality LSA200 foam on its top comfort layer. The material is simultaneously responsive, breathable, bouncy and soft.

Under the top layer of foam is another one featuring slower-moving memory foam for more body contouring. The comfort layers are handy in creating a balanced foam feel that’s responsive and soft for the utmost pressure relief without getting stuck in the mattress.

While the memory foam and LSA200 foam is soft, its support layer is extremely firm making the mattress not-too-soft and not-too-firm.

Back sleeping on the mattress gives users a balance of support and comfort while the bottom base foam layer offers excellent overall support.

In terms of cover, the mattress has a breathable and soft cover made of twill fabric.

    Trial Period And Returns

Sleep Number gives you 100 nights to test drive their beds. There are a lot of moving parts built into a Sleep Number bed. We would recommend you take 30 nights of sleeping before deciding whether to keep any mattress. We would recommend taking at least that amount of time for the Sleep Number. You may need some time to figure out which number/firmness at which you sleep most comfortably.

If you decide the mattress, or any of the individual layers, doesnt work for you, just initiate a return within 100 days. Sleep Number has to authorize it before you can expect a return. Once you initiate a return, you have 30 days to get it back to Sleep Number. You will pay to return your mattress. After all of that, and after your returns have arrived at Sleep Number, youll have to wait 21 days for your refund.

But you can exchange your mattress for an upgrade or downgrade. Youll have to pay the difference for the upgrade. Youll get a refund of some portion of the difference if you choose a lower-priced model.

Sleep Number Bed Weight Limit For Heavy People

    Sleep Number Value Beds

To optimize sleep, knowing the weight limit is important. A bed should support the weight of a user to prevent squeaking and other issues at night.

Based on the size, Sleep Number beds have one or two adjustable air chambers modifiable to the desired level of firmness and comfort. Each of the two chambers has a 400-pound weight limit.

Full, Twin XL and Twin Sleep Number beds have a 400-pound limit as they have one air chamber while California King, King and Queen Sleep Number beds boast an 800-pound weight limit as they have 2 air chambers.

While the Sleep Number weight limit is impressive, it is lighter compared to others. With a 400-pound limit, the Sleep Number bed can handle sleepers weighing 230 pounds and above.

Ghost SmartBed, on the other hand, has five zones compared to Sleep Number’s one zone making it ideal for a heavyset body.

The Sleep Number 360 Smart Bed Classic Series

The under-$1,500 Classic Series is Sleep Numbers entry-level offering, and the mattresses in this line sure feel like it. The 8-inch c2 reminds me of a dormitory bednot surprising, since it contains only 2 inches of foam the rest of the mattress is made up of air encased in the bladder. The c4 has an inch more foam, for a total of 9 inches, and feels only slightly less institutional theres nothing cuddly about it. Unless youre used to sleeping on a mat or you plan on springing for a good mattress topper, we dont recommend this series.

In 2020, Sleep Number updated its 360 Smart Beds, adding temperature-balancing featuresincluding high air-flow fabrics and gel materialsmeant to make the mattresses feel cooler and more breathable.

Major Cons Of Sleep Number Beds

    1. Air Leaks

Based on online Sleep Number Bed Reviews left by Sleep Number consumers, more than 10% of the users complain of air leaks. The most popular causes of air leaks in Sleep Number mattresses are faulty air pumps, malfunctioning controllers, leaks on the air bladders, leaky hoses or loose connections.

The whole concept of adjustable firmness depends on control of air pressure. If air leaks out, that whole concept becomes an utter disaster.

    2. Trench Effect

Queen and King-size Sleep Number beds have two independent chambers allowing the two partners to have two different firmness levels on their respective sides.

The downside of this is that a trench can form between these two air chambers which is NOT helpful towards cuddling, spooning, or other intimate activities (

    3. Hammock Effect

This happens if you try to make the bed very soft. For example, a Sleep Number of 40 would be very deflated and therefore, soft. When you climb on to such a bed, you automatically roll to the middle and sink while the air shifts to the periphery of the mattress. This gives rise to a hammock or sagging effect.

You can avoid this to a certain degree by purchasing a Sleep Number bed on the soft side of the spectrum like an i7, i8 or i10. This hammock effect is more likely to happen if you buy a firm mattress like the c2 or c4 and then deflate it to get a soft setting.

    4. Expensive

Why Would Someone Pick This Model Over The Other Sleep Number Mattresses

The P-5 mattress from Sleep Number is the most popular sleep number mattress. This is most likely because of its soft mattress top and 2 comfort foam layer about the air chamber in the bed.

In general, people who were struggling with pain and those who wanted to be able to change the firmness of their bed depending on their current needs really liked the comfort of this model.

Since this model is a crowd pleaser, it seems like a safe choice to make when picking a Sleep Number bed, especially if youre not 100% certain what type of firmness you want in a bed.

Sleep Number S1 And S3 Value Bed Series Review

The Value-bed Series also known as the Legacy series consists of the s1 and s3 beds. This is the only dumb series of beds. This doesnt get categorized under the Sleep Number 360 Smart Beds. Nevertheless, s1 and s3 are kind of semi-smart because they still have Dual Air and SleepIQ technologies. The only smart technology that it lacks is the Responsive Air technology.

    1. Sleep Number s1 Bed Review

Major Features of the s1 bed

    • This is the most basic, entry-level Sleep Number bed
    • Thickness: it is 10 thick thats 2 thicker than the 8 c2 mattress
    • Firmness: it is one of the firmest with a 6-7 reading on the firmness scale. This is the same firmness as the Sleep Number c2
    • Comfort layer: it is 1.5 thick and is the thinnest out of all Sleep Number beds. The 5-zoned comfort layer is designed to contour around the body and to reduce stress on pressure points on the 5 zones head, neck, lumbar area, hips, and feet
    • Price: $999 for a queen size bed
    • Smart technologies: The s1 is a semi-smart bed it has the SleepIQ technology that measures your heart rate, how long you slept etc. But it doesnt have the Responsive Air technology that is responsible for automatically changing firmness
