Does Apple Podcast Have A Sleep Timer

Sleep Timer For All Media: Do You Already Know This Ios Feature

How to Use the Sleep Timer Feature in the Podcasts App

Do you like to listen to videos on YouTube to fall asleep, or do you always fall asleep in front of your favorite series on Netflix? If you’re using an iPhone, you can set a sleep timer for every media playback via a much too hidden feature. In our latest coffee break, I’ll tell you how!

PIT

Even though falling asleep in front of the TV or cell phone isn’t exactly healthy, it’s part of everyday life for many people as an evening ritual. However, almost everyone knows the queasy feeling when the virtual sleep aid was on all night. If you use an iPhone, you can put an end to this once and for all. Apple has integrated a universal sleep timer into iOS.

You can use it for all apps that play media content on your iPhone or iPad. In the test, this works with streaming apps, YouTube, and Apple’s own podcast app. Alternatively, you can also use the feature if your children like to watch videos on the tablet or cell phone and the app used does not offer any parental control features. So it’s a really powerful tool.

Apple Podcasts: Clock App As An Alternative To The Sleep Timer

As I showed you a week ago, you can also use the above instructions as a universal sleep timer on the Apple iPhone use. In the linked post, I have attached this to the Apple Music app, which also does not have its own option for stopping playback. You can also use the timer to stop any other playback. So if you listen to a podcast to fall asleep and know that you will not hear the entire length, but only the first ten or fifteen minutes, then you can enter this time individually in the timer of the clock app. This allows the choice of hours, minutes and seconds.

How To Use The Spotify Sleep Timer

Spotify is rolling out the feature via a software update, so make sure you’ve downloaded the latest version of the Spotify app from the App Store before following these steps. If you don’t see the function in the Spotify app, check back later in the day, by which time the rollout will have hopefully reached you.

  • Launch the Spotify app on your iPhone or iPad.
  • Start playing your music or podcast of choice.
  • Select the “now playing” screen so that the artwork and playback controls are front and center.
  • If you’re listening to music, tap the three dots in the top-right corner of the screen. If you’re listening to a podcast, tap the little moon icon in the bottom-right corner.
  • Scroll down and select Sleep Timer from the list of options that appear.
  • Select a duration for your timer. There are six increments to choose from, between five minutes and an hour. If you’re quick to fall asleep, choose End of track or End of episode.
  • You’ll can tell that the Sleep Timer function is active by the moon icon that appears next to the playback controls. If you set a timer and you haven’t fallen asleep yet, you can go back in and tap either Turn off Timer or select more time.

If you’re at a loss for what to listen to at bedtime, head to Spotify’s Sleep selection of playlists for some quick inspiration.

Reader’s Note Update: Deactivate Continuous Playback

As you can see in the comments below, our reader Dirk pointed out to us that there is a native solution to stop podcast playback after an episode. So you don’t necessarily have to use the timer function of the clock app if you only want to play the current episode. To do this, “Continuous playback” must be deactivated. That’s how it’s done:

  • Opens the Settings on your Apple iPhone
  • Scrolls down to the point Podcasts to open
  • Deactivates the slider at the point Continuous playback
  • If you want to stop playback after the current episode in Apple Podcasts on the iPhone or Mac, you can do this in the settings.

How To Activate Spotify Sleep Timer On Android

    How

Spotify for Android has a slight variation in terms of user interface compared to Spotify for iOS. That said, we will provide a step-by-step guide for both environments, starting with Spotify for Android.

Do the following to set up a Spotify sleep timer for your smartphone:1. Open Spotify from your app dashboard.2. Pick a song to play via the app.3. Enlarge the playing clip by tapping on the Now Playing bar at the bottommost part of the Spotify interface.4. Click the three-dot menu icon on the top-right corner of the interface.5. Tap on Sleep Timer, then select for how long the song will go playing before the app stops it completely.

The sleep timer feature allows you to set a timer for just how long a clip would play. That helps you ensure the clip wont keep playing after you have fallen asleep and drain your device battery the next morning.

How To Use Your Iphone’s Hidden Sleep Timer To Fall Asleep To Music

Apple’s native Clock app in iOS has a hidden feature that allows you to go to bed at night with audio playing on your iPhone and it will automatically stop playing after a set time ideally, after you’ve fallen asleep.

It’s really handy if you don’t want your iPhone playing through that audiobook, ambient playlist or podcast series when you’re not awake to enjoy it. It can also help save your battery, and potentially your data allowance if you’re streaming music or radio over cellular. Here’s how it works.

  • Launch the Control Center on your iPhone on iPhone 8 or earlier, swipe up from the bottom of the screen on iPhone X or later, swipe down from the upper right “ear” of the screen.
  • Tap the Timer button.
  • Using the dials, select a time that you want your audio to play for.
  • Tap When Timer Ends.
  • Scroll down to the bottom and select Stop Playing.
  • Tap Set in the top-right corner of the screen.
  • Tap Start to start your timer.
  • You can now turn off the screen on your iPhone and tuck into bed. If the timer ends and you haven’t fallen asleep yet, just resume whatever audio was playing and restart the timer.
