Controlling Your Bed And Finding Your Sleep Number
The SleepIQ app is well organized and easy to navigate, with three tabs on the bottom: Sleep, Bed, and Profile.
In the Bed tab, you can adjust your Sleep Number setting, control the FlexFit base, and set up bedtime Routines so the foot warmer is on when you tuck in at night. Here, you can also enable/disable the Responsive Air, underbed lighting, and sleep tracking features.
Your Sleep Number can range from 5 to 100 , and is adjustable in increments of 5. The SleepIQ app offers a useful feature that can help you find your ideal setting, though it still takes some trial and error. Navigate to Bed > Sleep Number Setting > Find Favorite, and the app will let you test a range of firmness levels.
Since it can take some time to get used to a new mattress, Sleep Number recommends trying your selected firmness setting for two to five nights. If you’re not comfortable, try adjusting it by 5 or 10. Increasing the number will increase the firmness, and vice versa. I like my mattress on the softer side, so I kept my Sleep Number at 30 for the first few nights. That was a little too soft, so I increased it to 45, which feels perfect.

Seek Alternatives To The Sleep Number I8 If
- You’re looking for a more traditional mattress. Perhaps you’re shopping for your guest bedroom, your growing child, or you simply prefer a conventional mattress. If simplicity is what you’re looking for in a mattress, it’s best to skip the Sleep Number i8. If you’re in the market for an innerspring or memory foam mattress, we highly recommend Saatva. They make luxury mattresses that don’t require the know-how of a high-tech bed, plus come with free white glove delivery and setup.
- You’re not tech savvy. The above point becomes much more important if you’re not great with technology. The i8’s phone syncing features, remote controllability, and auto adjustments are what makes this mattress stand apart from the rest. If using a remote to control your comfort levels, sleep position, and more seems like too much hassle, skip the Sleep Number i8!

Sleep Number Classic Series Mattress Review Breakdown
The Sleep Number Classic Series is a line of airbeds consisting of the Sleep Number c2 and the Sleep Number c4. Not to be confused with temporary inflatable air mattresses, airbeds like the c2 and the c4 feature support cores that contain air-filled chambers. By adding or removing air from these chambers, you can fine-tune the beds firmness. With the ability to adjust anywhere between a soft and firm , the c2 and the c4 are highly versatile.
Both models have separate air chambers on each side of the bed so that partners can select their own firmness preferences. You can adjust your Sleep Number Classic Series comfort settings via Sleep Numbers SleepIQ app or with a Sleep Number remote that is sold separately. In addition to their air chamber support cores, the c2 and the c4 both contain a soft outer cover and a gel-infused polyfoam comfort layer to enhance pressure relief.
The Sleep Number c2 and c4 can both be used with a Sleep Number FlexFit Adjustable Base. The adjustable base allows you to make additional changes to your sleep surface, all controlled by the SleepIQ app or Sleep Number remote. Different FlexFit models offer varying features, including raising or lowering the head and foot of your bed, underbed lighting, and foot warming.

How Many Comfort Settings Are Possible
Sleep Number: 20
The bottom line: The more firmness settings you have to choose from, the better able you are to find your ideal comfort level. Solaire offers 50 distinct firmness settings, as measured by the scientific pressure standard of millimeters of mercury .
Sleep Number uses its own scale of 1 to 100, measured in increments of 5, for a total of 20 possible firmness settings.
Which Sleep Number Bed Is Best For Me
Before we jump into recommendations, its important to note that the experience of sleeping on an airbed can feel quite different from that of more traditional mattress styles, like all-foam or hybrid beds. If you love memory foam, for example, an airbed wont provide the same enveloping feeling you enjoy, regardless of how thick the comfort layers are.
Secondly, if you enjoy cuddling with your partner while you sleep, the dual air chambers may impede that and can feel uncomfortable. Lastly, these airbeds arent for people with a limited budget, considering the most affordable Smart Bed option starts at $999.

Among other features, the mattress will automatically adjust firmness in response to your movements, and warm or cool the bed based on your body temperature. Sleep Number also now offers a kids bed.

Selecting A Bed And Preparing For Delivery
If you’re seriously considering getting a 360 Smart Bed, I strongly suggest speaking with one of the company’s Sleep Professionals, who can assess your needs, give you a rundown of the different models and features, and help you pick the best model for you.
Sleep Number’s beds are expensive, but the company often runs promotions, so wait for a deal if you can. At the time of this writing, it’s offering $800 off 360 Smart Beds as part of a fall sale. The company also occasionally waives its $199 premium delivery and setup fee, which is otherwise required with the purchase of any 360 Smart Bed.
To make the cost more manageable, Sleep Number offers financing options through Synchrony Financial starting at $45 per month. For peace of mind, the company also offers a 100-night trial and a 15-year limited warranty.
Before receiving my review unit, I was a little nervous about whether it would work with my current bed frame, and I’m happy to report that it does. The FlexFit base needs to sit directly on the floor, but in many cases, can be dropped into your existing bed frame, as is the case with my setup. Sleep Number says it won’t work with platform furniture and frames with under-bed storage.

What We Think About Sleep Number Mattresses
In general, we think you can get a more comfortable mattress for a lot less. But if you insist on Sleep Numbers adjustability because you and your partner cant compromise on a firmness level, and you have a flexible budget, we think only the Performance Series and Innovation Series mattresses and the Cooling Memory Foam mattress are worth considering. The less expensive Classic Series mattresses and the Value Bed lines are just too thin for most people. If you like a plush mattress with good support, then you should spend more for the Innovation Series beds, which have thicker cushioning.
Beyond SleepIQ, Sleep Numbers marketing also touts technology that claims to help you fall asleep faster with a foot-warming feature. You can also theoretically control your partners snoring by raising the upper portion of their side of the bed. However, these features are available only with the companys adjustable bases , which cost between $1,200 and $2,400 for a queen.
