The Sleep Number 360 Smart Bed Performance Series
The Performance Series is slightly plusher than the Classic Series. The p5 and cooling pSE each have 4 inches of cushioning, for a total height of 10 inches. The p6, the companys most popular mattress, has an additional inch of cushioning, for an overall thickness of 11 inches.
Compared with the beds in the Classic line and the Performance lines p5, the p6 felt like a real mattress, the kind with a surface thats adequately cushioned for people who are not particularly high-maintenance. But when I tried the p6 at home, I couldnt shake the feeling that I was sleeping on a rubber raft. The 5 inches of foam wasnt enough for me to nestle into, even with a softer air-bladder setting. Letting out air offered more give, but then the bed didnt feel as supportive, and it still didnt feel fluffy, per se.
I was left feeling adrift, but my husband, by contrast, loved sleeping on the p6. For once, instead of compromising on my medium-soft-mattress preferences, he could sleep on a firm mattress next to me. It was a sad day for him when we returned this mattress.
The pSE wasnt available to try at the store when I visited, but Sleep Numbers publicist said it has proprietary ClimaTemp foam that is softer and more plush than whats typically used on the p series. Unfortunately, were not sure exactly how this technology works because Sleep Number doesnt share details about its foam.
Sleep Number Brand And Reputation
The Sleep Number Corporation, based in Minneapolis, MN, manufactures Sleep Number beds in the United States. The company started life as the Select Comfort Corporation in 1987.
The main way that people can purchase a Sleep Number bed is through a Sleep Number store, of which there are more than 570 across all 50 states.
Regularly ranked highest in customer satisfaction with mattresses by J. D. Power, Sleep Number became an official Sleep + Wellness partner of the National Football League in 2018.
The company also offers consultations with sleep professionals, who can provide helpful guidance on how to sleep better.
According to company research, compared with those who slept on traditional innerspring mattresses, people who used a Sleep Number bed fell asleep faster, slept more deeply, had fewer sleep disturbances, and had more relief from back pain. However, no objective research supports these findings.
Sleep Number beds contain technology that measures a persons sleep data, including body position and temperature.
Sleep Number beds allow for automatic or manual customization of different sides of the mattress.
Generally, Sleep Number beds have the following key characteristics:
Beds in this series have the classic Sleep Number bed features, plus comfort layers to provide pressure point relief.

This range of mattresses may suit people who often wake up with aches and pains.
Are Sleep Number Adjustable Beds Covered By Insurance
Medicare covers the cost of adjustable beds only when theyre prescribed by a doctor. Your doctor will need to explain your need for an adjustable bed. The same is true for most private insurance companies. Check directly with your insurance provider to make sure it offers coverage for a Sleep Number adjustable bed.

What I Found From Several Live Chat Sessions
After speaking with Sleep Number Customer Service representatives, I learned about a few extra details and clarifications that may help you decide between a C-2 or an I-8 mattress.
- Firmness: By virtue of having no comfort foam layers, the C-2 is Sleep Numbers naturally firmest mattress. Yes, you can technically adjust support levels by inflating/deflating the air chamber, but with no foam in between the mattress top and the air chamber, it is going to be a firmer mattress.
- Popularity: A Customer Service representative mentioned that a magazine named the C-2 model a Best Buy value. So I did some research and found that Consumer Reports listed the C-2 as a Best Value mattress because its performance tested just as well in back and side support as compared to the more expensive I-8.
- Cooling Technology: Sleep Number offers several mattresses with cooling options . The I-8 features a temperature balancing sleep surface which representatives told me is Outlast technology, designed to pull heat away from the body and redistribute it throughout the night to help people stay comfortable.

Innovation Series Beds Warranty
The Sleep Number P5 presents with a 25-year limited warranty.
However, our research revealed that P5 owners give the warranty a below-average rating primarily because the non-prorated coverage ends after two years of ownership which tends to be the case with all the Sleep Number beds.
With that said, consumers are giving the Sleep Number P5 warranty a below-average rating overall.
Sleep Number C2 Bed Warranty
The Sleep Number C2 comes with a 25-year warranty thats prorated after two years. What this means is that any defects in materials or workmanship is covered fully for two years. After that period, you will be responsible for a portion of the cost to repair or replace your mattress.

Going with the C2 and adding my own bells and whistles
Very grateful for Candid Reviewer’s advice. We were interested in the C2 after seeing the excellent rating it received from Consumer Reports, with high marks for durability, side and back sleeping. We went to the sleep number store, stuck to our plan and avoided being up- sold, and bought both the recommended fiber topper and a gel topper to experiment with once the C2 arrives. We also are using our old metal frame with a queen-size bunkie board , for a nice savings compared to the $300 foundation from sleep number. More $ for new sheets and bedding!
Not perfect but best mattress I’ve had in….well ever.
I will not buy any other bed again.
Best bed I ever had. I’m a big person 300 Plus pounds…At year 10 the pump went out and I called…they still had my info and sold me a new pump at 1/2 price. It’s went through 2 moves and is still great! My husband is also big so it stands up to heavy folks. Folks on the phone were friendly and helpful. I’m looking now to buy my son one.
So far, So Good!
Warning: Sleep Number Beds Last Only 6 Years
I wish I had not purchased this bed since I cannot find a good sleep position and will purchase another mattress
One moth in and love it, after a few tweaks
DO NOT BUY THIS BED!!!! READ YOUR WARRANTY!!!
ONLY buy the C2 mattress, no upgrades
DO NOT BUY

Sleep Number Mattress Reviews
We have smartphones, smartwatches, smart houses, and cities, and now it’s only normal that we get smart beds instead of conventional mattresses. Sleep Number as a company isnt the first to come out with a smart bed, but they are the largest and most trustworthy of your best night’s sleep.
They are owned by the public company Select Comfort Corporation. With many thousands of employees working at their multiple distribution centers all over the U.S, Select Comfort Corporation guarantees a restful sleep with all their core line innovation series that automatically adjust to your body and personal preference.
At first, Sleep Number beds were popular as air mattresses with air chambers that completely conformed to the sleeper’s body. You could get an adjustable air mattress with a relatively thin comfort layer, two air chambers, and a firmness control system.
The separate air chambers made the air mattress better at conforming than innerspring mattresses at the time. Nowadays, Sleep Number beds are smart beds that have come a long way from conventional mattresses. There are many Sleep Number collections with different numbering which present the firmness settings based on your preferences.
The Sleep Number mattresses can inflate or deflate with a special remote to your exact level of firmness preferences depending on the sleeping position you sleep in. With such a feature, you will fall asleep faster and get the back pain relief you could only dream of with your old mattress.

Sleep Number Bed Warranty Terms
|0-2 years after purchase||No cost to owner for repair|
|3-20 years after purchase||Owner pays 20% of repair costs plus 4% of repair cost for each year from original purchase date.|
|21-25 years after purchase||Owner pays 96% of repair cost.|
For the 3-20 year portion of the warranty, here is an example. You have a problem that costs $200 to repair and you’ve had the Sleep Number Bed for 10 years. You will pay 20% of the cost plus 4% of the cost times 10 years . So you will owe $120 of the $200 repair cost and Sleep Number will pay the rest.
In addition, after the first two years you are responsible for all shipping costs related to any repaired or replaced product.
Weight And Ease Of Transport
Sleep Number mattresses weigh 37-120 pounds depending on model and size making them less heavy than many conventional mattresses. Their relatively low weight is due mostly to the fact that they consist of air to a significant extent.
Their below-average weight, however, causes some people â namely those who associate low weight with cheapness â to question Sleep Number’s mostly above-average price.
The relatively low weight of the beds combined with the fact that they can be disassembled and broken down into individual components make them relatively easy to handle, lift, move, or transport.

Sleep Number 360 C2 Smart Mattress
Sleep Numbers C2 Classic Series model is the most basic and standard of Sleep Number mattresses. It does not come with a lot of bells and whistles, but thats not always a bad thing. This mattress seems to be a hit with budget-friendly folks, mostly couples, who want the Sleep Number experience.
We recommend this mattress for the following sleeper types:
What Devices Or Apps Can A Sleep Number Bed Connect With
The SleepIQ app can connect and share health information with a Fitbit or the MapMyFitness app about workouts and fitness activities. People can also connect to Apple Health to share sleep start and end times.
SleepIQ cannot connect with Amazon Alexa, Google Home, or the Nest Learning Thermostat.

What We Think About Sleep Number Mattresses
In general, we think you can get a more comfortable mattress for a lot less. But if you insist on Sleep Numbers adjustability because you and your partner cant compromise on a firmness level, and you have a flexible budget, we think only the Performance Series and Innovation Series mattresses and the Cooling Memory Foam mattress are worth considering. The less expensive Classic Series mattresses and the Value Bed lines are just too thin for most people. If you like a plush mattress with good support, then you should spend more for the Innovation Series beds, which have thicker cushioning.
Beyond SleepIQ, Sleep Numbers marketing also touts technology that claims to help you fall asleep faster with a foot-warming feature. You can also theoretically control your partners snoring by raising the upper portion of their side of the bed. However, these features are available only with the companys adjustable bases , which cost between $1,200 and $2,400 for a queen.
Heres how the mattresses themselves compare to one another:
How Are Firm Sleep Number Mattresses
Unlike typical foam mattresses and other mattresses available on the market today, the Sleep Number P5 mattress is equipped with instant firmness adjustment and individual Sleep Number Settings that allow sleepers to select and set their own levels of firm or soft. The air chamber use a pump to bring in the air that will inflate or deflate the chamber based on the sleepers Sleep Number setting.
Each partner can choose their required levels of firmness and softness and comfort and support and can change their settings at any time they choose, even in the middle of the night.
The individual settings allow sleepers to enjoy a comfortable, supportive and restorative nights sleep.
In addition, the adjustable firmness results in better comfort for sleepers as well as reduced pain and pressure point relief.
With independent air chambers on each side of the bed, two people with different preferences for firmness can still sleep comfortably and peacefully together all night long.
Our data revealed that nearly 45% of all Sleep Number bed owners favor the adjustable firmness feature but admit that finding the perfect Sleep Number is not only challenging but quite frustrating and takes a great deal of time and patience.
This has proven to be quite an issue with the Sleep Number P5 model as well.
With the air loss, consumers complain of reduced comfort and minimized support, and even increased pain resulting in a restless and uncomfortable nights sleep.

Sleep Number C2 Bed Unboxing
Every Sleep Number 360 Smart Bed, including the C2 model, is delivered and set-up in your home by a Sleep Number technician. This means that you wont be the one setting up your new mattress.
Keep in mind that your Sleep Number mattress must be located relatively close to an outlet. The C2 bed needs to be plugged in to control the firmness level and track your sleep using the SleepIQ technology.
Some consumers report a mild rubber odor for the first few days of use. This is caused by the air pumping into the vulcanized rubber air chambers. Within a few days, the scent will fully dissipate. To air out the rubbery scent quickly, unzip the mattress cover.
