What Is A Split Kingbed

If you sleep cold, hot, sprawled out on your back, or in a series of bizarre and gymnastic positions, you might want to give the other person in your bed as much space as possible at lights out. In fact, they may have very different sleep preferences than you.

With that said, a split king bed could be the solution to your problems.

What is a split king mattress? A split king bed is exactly what it sounds like. Its a king size mattress that is split right down the middle, giving you and your partner the freedom to customize each side of the bed.

Give you and your sleeping companion the gift of customized sleeping arrangements. With Caspers split king adjustable bed, you never have to sacrifice your sleeping preference.

Want to learn more about this mattress? Read on to discover more details about split kings and the benefits they offer.

Why Would You Need A Split King

Split king mattresses are most often used by couples. Partners dont always have the same sleeping needs. Body size, position, and personal preference affect what feels comfortable. A split king allows each partner to choose their own distinct sleep surface while still sharing a bed.

Differing Firmness Needs

Body weight and sleeping position are two of the biggest factors when choosing an appropriate firmness level. Couples needs can vary widely in this regard. For instance, a stomach sleeper over 230 pounds is likely to need a much firmer mattress than their partner who weighs under 130 pounds and sleeps on their side.

Motion Isolation

When a person tosses and turns or gets out of bed, vibrations may travel across the mattress surface and disturb their partner. Since a split king is two separate pieces, movement on one side of the bed does not transfer to the other.

For Use on an Adjustable Base

Sleepers may use an adjustable base for a wide variety of reasons, including comfort, mitigating snoring, and preventing acid reflux. Combining an adjustable base with a split king allows each partner to customize the position of their bed.

How To Move A Sleep Number Bed:

  • Start with the sleep number disassembly process. Open the mattress by completely unzipping the mattress cover. The zip can be anywhere between the pillow cover and base. If youre disassembling a Duvet-style bed or those with two zippers, unzip the bottom zipper.
  • Pull out the hoses from the mattress. Look for the gray tabs on each side of the bed. Gently push the tab and carefully pull out the hose from the mattress through the cover opening.
  • Take out the inner mattress parts. These include the air chambers, border walls, and corner locks. You may want to take photos of the internal parts for easier reference when reassembling your sleep number bed later.
  • Unplug the beds firmness control system. This is the large white box unit to which the hoses are attached. Unplug and securely pack the unit to prevent possible damage.
  • Pack the deflated air chambers. Use packing materials to avoid damaging the chambers.
  • Put the cover and foam comfort pads in a double bag. This is to prevent staining the pads and the mattress.
  • Remove the mattress retainers. Loosen the hex bolts with a 7/16-inch socket to remove the retainers. Remember to keep the bolts and other components in a safe place. You will use these components when rebuilding the bed.
  • Disassemble the adjustable/modular base. Slide the decking panels off the bed frame.
  • With the mattress and bed frame disassembled and other components safely packed, you are now ready to carry them to another location.

Sleep Number Bed Sinks In The Middle

You might also notice slight valleys or sagging in the center for mattresses that come with two air chambers. To resolve this, check if the foam comfort layer where you usually lie on is less supported, softer, or thinner than the rest of the pad. To do this, you will need to open the mattress from the top cover panel then place the foam between your hands to inspect its current condition. If you notice that the foam has lost its support, you can contact your local Sleep Number store to request a replacement. In other instances, fluff the foam comfort layer by holding the top cover panel and shake it to even out the distribution. Make sure that you do this step on all four sides, and zip the cover back.

Use a Wireless Air Bed Pump compatible with your Sleep Number mattress to adjust its air chambers. This pump comes with a wireless remote that has custom setting options to help you find your exact comfort level.

    • There are several things you can do to void your warranty. Some of these include staining/damaging your mattress with liquids or fluids, ripping off the legal tag, opening the remote and forgetting to keep your original receipt .
    • After the first two years, you are responsible for a portion of the price needed for any repairs or replacements to your mattress or base.

How To Choose A Split King Adjustable Bed

When choosing a split king adjustable bed, there are a few important factors to consider. Do you have two compatible twin XL mattresses to use with a split king base? If not, youll need to purchase them.

Youll also need to consider the adjustable beds weight limit, assembly, your budget, and the warranty. The trial period may also be a factor in your decision.

Who Might Not Want A Sleep Number

    • People who love memory foam Depending on what is available, there are one possibly two Sleep Number models that offer a comfort layer made with memory foam. Those who love the feel of classic memory foam will be limited on Sleep Number beds, which are at their core adjustable air beds.
    • Couples who like to sleep close together One of the biggest complaints from couples is that a sagging/division is created in between the dual air chambers on the bed. Couples who like to sleep close or cuddle in the center of the bed feel as those they are sinking into the middle of the bed.

Are Sleep Number Adjustable Beds Covered By Insurance

    Sleep Number Bed (king)

Medicare covers the cost of adjustable beds only when theyre prescribed by a doctor. Your doctor will need to explain your need for an adjustable bed. The same is true for most private insurance companies. Check directly with your insurance provider to make sure it offers coverage for a Sleep Number adjustable bed.

    Top Common Compliments:

The models that fell in middle-range firmness i6 and i8 are especially known for balancing firmness and comfort really well. In fact, an overwhelming number of people specifically spoke about back pain being alleviated. The adjustability of the bed also makes this a flexible sleep option, so if youre having any aches, moving your sleep number setting up or down could help with some of your discomforts.

Great for partners! This bed is a great option for couples, especially those who have different sleep styles and comfort or firmness preferences. The DualAir chambers feature means each side of the bed can be adjusted separately so you can sleep exactly how you want to without having to compromise with your bedmate.

Awesome technology. If you love data and technology features in your new mattress, look no further. From temperature-regulating technology to automatic adjustments in the middle of the night, to your bed measuring your sleep activity and giving you a Sleep Score, this bed is a great option for sleep nerds.

    Top Common Complaints:

Sleep Number Classic Series C2 Vs Personal Comfort A2 Bed

Both the Sleep Number Classic Series c2 and Personal Comfort A2 mattresses are airbeds. Like Sleep Number, Personal Comfort exclusively produces airbeds with customizable firmness levels to suit your weight and sleep position, but Personal Comforts prices tend to be lower. The A2 is part of Personal Comforts Classic Series, which is the most affordable of the brands five airbed lines.

The A2 is 9 thick, is dual-sided, and has a 1 comfort layer. The c2 by Sleep Number is 8 thick, is dual-sided, and has a 2 gel-infused comfort layer. Overall, the beds are very similar in construction, but the Sleep Number c2 devotes a bit more material to the comfort layer and is, surprisingly, more affordable than the Personal Comfort A2.

Is A Split King Right For Everyone

No, probably not. First and foremost, this is really only something that wed recommend for couples. If you are single, you probably dont even need a bed as big as a king, but if you want a huge mattress, having your bed split down the middle for no reason will probably be pretty annoying.

Also, couples who have a similar body type, sleeping style and/or mattress preference might not find getting a split king to be that necessary. If you are both going to want the same mattress, you might as well just get one big king size mattress. This will also typically be a bit more of an affordable bed, as buying two twin XL mattresses can often be a little bit more expensive than buying one king size mattress.

Why Opt For An Adjustable Bed Frame

This kind of bed frame has grown in popularity a lot in recent years because adjustable bed frames often come with a lot of special features and can even be helpful in treating certain health conditions. For example, if you snore or suffer from sleep apnea, you can program your bed frame to raise 10°, which should improve your breathing. Some bed frames also come with massage features, a zero gravity setting, and even USB ports for easy phone charging while you sleep, among other things.

These bed frames are also often made to fit inside of your existing bed frame and will take the place of a traditional foundation, platform, box spring, or wooden slats. There is no need to compromise on the style of your room for the comfort of an adjustable frame.

If you go for an adjustable bed frame with split king mattresses, you will likely find that you and your partner are both able to find the ideal sleep setting for you. One person can sleep soundly on their soft foam mattress while the bed frame gently vibrates to massage their feet, while the other person can feel supported and cool on their firm latex mattress that is lifted to the perfect angle to avoid waking themselves up in the middle of the night with their loud snoring.

    Sleepiq Vs Sleeptracker Ai

Both have apps for Apple and Android devices, and both offer much of the same functionality. Sleep Numbers SleepIQ and Tempur-Pedics Sleeptracker AI can both monitor your movement, your heart rate, your breathing, and your sleep cycles. As a result, they can report on the quality of your sleep, wake you at the lightest stage of your sleep to reduce grogginess, and even adjust the bed tilt to reduce your partners snoring!

There are a few small differences worth mentioning. SleepIQ comes standard with every Sleep Number mattress even if some functions require one of their FlexFit bases. By contrast, Sleeptracker only comes packaged with Tempurs TEMPUR-Ergo and TEMPUR-Ergo Extend smart bases. However, it can be purchased separately for $299.

Do you have a smart home device like Alexa or Google Home in your home? If so, Tempur-Pedics Sleeptracker is definitely the better option for you, as SleepIQ isnt currently compatible with these devices.

Split King Mattress Guide For Couples

A split king mattress, sometimes called a duel king bed, has the same dimensions as a normal king-sized mattress but the main difference is that the middle has been divided so each sleeper can customize their own side of the bed.

When compared to a standard king, couples report that split king mattresses are more comfortable for both partners because the two twin xl sized sides can be customized based on the needs of both sleepers.

How to adjust each side of a split-king mattress will be outlined below, but it is important to know that there are advantages and disadvantages to sleeping on any type of split mattress. Well cover those below, too. First, lets get your dimension, size, and comparison questions out of the way.
