There is no such thing as sacrificing the way you sleep. If youre careful enough to plug your smartphone in every night so you can have a full battery the next day, then you should pay at least that much attention to how you recharge your own batteries. Getting a good night sleep is underrated. We sleep with our TVs on, neglecting how LED is sending mixed signals to our brain, telling us its not bedtime yet. We forget to open the windows to allow fresh air inside the room. We eat before going to bed, or, even worse, we bring snacks into bed and then hope to fall asleep on a full stomach.

All of these factors contribute to a disturbing, fussy, unproductive sleep. And then theres the mattress. We are conditioned by our budget to purchase the cheapest mattress we can get and hope for the best. That is not how mattress shopping should work.

Sleep Number Performance P6 Vs Easy Rest Gel Lux Mattress

Shoppers in the market for a pressure-relieving, comfortable mattress have their fair share of choices, considering that every mattress type, from all-foam to airbed to hybrid, has options made with body-conforming comfort foam layers. If you struggle with back pain or pressure points, you may have considered the Sleep Number Performance p6, which has a thick, 5 polyfoam comfort layer and can range from medium-soft to firm in firmness level.

A comparable model, although not an airbed, is the Easy Rest Gel Memory Foam Mattress. It is 12 tall and features 4 of comfort foam and 1 of gel-ventilated holes for added pressure relief and cooling. Though these beds both deliver on comfort, they have discrepancies: namely, their styles and price points. A Queen size p6 costs $2,899, and a Queen size Easy Rest costs $879.

Sleep Number Classic Series C2 Vs Personal Comfort A2 Bed

Both the Sleep Number Classic Series c2 and Personal Comfort A2 mattresses are airbeds. Like Sleep Number, Personal Comfort exclusively produces airbeds with customizable firmness levels to suit your weight and sleep position, but Personal Comforts prices tend to be lower. The A2 is part of Personal Comforts Classic Series, which is the most affordable of the brands five airbed lines.

The A2 is 9 thick, is dual-sided, and has a 1 comfort layer. The c2 by Sleep Number is 8 thick, is dual-sided, and has a 2 gel-infused comfort layer. Overall, the beds are very similar in construction, but the Sleep Number c2 devotes a bit more material to the comfort layer and is, surprisingly, more affordable than the Personal Comfort A2.

The first thing I did was go into our local Sleep Number store. I have not been in there in years and the people working in our Mobile, Al store were very friendly and knowledgeable. They explained what made the i8 special and tried to find my number. Keep in mind when you go into a store you are likely not tired and testing out the mattress is very limited. In the store I was most comfortable at setting 25, however, at home, my setting is actually between a 65-75.

A Smarter Night’s Sleep

The Sleep Number 360 i8 Smart Bed keeps your body cool thanks to its temperature-balancing sleep surface, while the FlexFit 3 base warms your feet with a built-in heater. Its excellent SleepIQ companion app allows for truly customizable comfort, letting you adjust the firmness and the position of the mattress to suit your preferences. It tracks your sleep health and biometrics, and offers useful tips to help improve your shut eye. Priced at $6,198 for the mattress and base configuration we tested, it will put a dent in your bank account, but a good night’s rest is crucial for health, and the Sleep Number i8 makes every night a dream, earning it our Editors’ Choice award.

If a Sleep Number is out of your budget, however, the Eight Sleep Pod Pro Mattress looks to be a promising alternative. It isn’t adjustable like a Sleep Number, but it tracks similar sleep and health metrics, supports dual-zone heating and cooling, and can vibrate to wake you up without disturbing your partner. We haven’t tested it yet, but an older Eght Sleep model scored well, and at half the price of the Sleep Number, it’s worth a look.

Sleep Number Mattresses Pros And Cons

In a sense, Sleep Number mattresses are just like any other: The top section is the comfort layer, while the bottom section provides support.

But instead of using layers of supportive foam or an innerspring system, the bottom portion of a Sleep Number mattress features an adjustable air chamber. It can be inflated or deflated to your preferred level of firmness.

Unfortunately, Sleep Number doesnt disclose what the comfort layer is made of. Reviewers describe it as cushiony but not necessarily plush. Some Sleep Number mattresses have thicker comfort layers.

Sleep Number Bed Reviews: Pros

Lets start analyzing the Sleep Number reviews from the positive side of things. As mentioned in the beginning, there are definitely better alternatives.

Before we do that, however, let me quickly reiterate something that Id mentioned in the introductory part of this article for the sake of providing a thorough and in-depth look into the most trustworthy Sleep Number bed reviews, and to avoid any possible confusion, well be analyzing only the reviews that have to do with the Classic series.

There are two models that well be looking at the c2 and the c4. One of the bigger differences between the two mattresses is that the c4 model has a slightly thicker comfort layer than its counterpart.

So then, with that out of the way, lets talk benefits.

  • You sleep hot. Sleep Number 360® I8s temperature-regulating technology is a great feature, designed to pull heat away from your body and keep you comfortable all night long. • You have money to spend. This bed is definitely an investment. They start at over $3,000, and this does not include a base.
  • You love geeking out on data. The 360® I8 smart bed comes with a lot of features, all of which are supposed to help you sleep better. Youre paying for the tech though, so this bed is especially great for folks who appreciate how technology can potentially enhance the sleep experience.
  • Youre a back sleeper. If you sleep on your back, the Sleep Number 360® I8 sounds like a viable option, providing the right balance of plushness and support for the spine. A lot of people with back injuries said the bed did a good job at supporting them, partially due to the 7 zones of contouring support feature.

Place The Foam Walls And Base Pad

With your mattress top open, begin building the structure of your bed. First, make sure the notches or corner lock mechanism located at the ends of each wall face inwards, as they help give shape to and complete the rest of the wall support. Next, start with placing the long foam sidewalls along each side of the bed, followed by the end walls. Once the side and end walls are secured in place, lay the base pad flat in the middle part of the mattress.

To prevent any foam from folding, shake the base pad out before laying it into the bottom of the mattress cover. If it is dual-sided a textured side and a smooth side then make sure the smooth side faces downwards and the smooth side upwards. Also, do not forget to place the air chambers on top later on, with both hose connections facing the head of the bed. With these three parts placed properly, you will now have full access to the inside of the case, which will allow you to begin layering the bed and installing air technology.

Sleep Number Mattress Reviews

The Sleep Number 360 c2 is an air bed that adjusts to your preferred firmness level, so you can find the perfect firmness for your body type and sleeping position. It comes with a remote so that you can adjust the amount of air with just a click.

The difference between the two mattresses is 1 inch of thickness. The c2 has a 2-inch layer in the top comfort layer made of gel-infused foam on top of the 6-inch air chamber layer. The c4 has a 3-inch layer. Also, the c4 has zoned support in the comfort layer, meaning its less dense to contour to hips and shoulders or more dense to support the neck or lower back. Set Up The Firmness Control System

Before setting up the Firmness Control System and connecting it to the air chambers, ensure that it is located correctly inside or outside your bed base. For elevated bases or bases with legs, it should sit inside the first section of the base. For bases sitting on the floor, the system should be outside the base at the head of your bed. As a precautionary measure, you should plug the Firmness Control System into a surge protector this is to guarantee that your air control unit and electronics are protected from damage from a power surge or a lightning strike.

TIP: The manufacturers recommendation is to use a surge protector listed to UL® 1449 with a clamping voltage of 330 volts and a joule rating of 700 or higher. Going with the C2 and adding my own bells and whistles

Very grateful for Candid Reviewer’s advice. We were interested in the C2 after seeing the excellent rating it received from Consumer Reports, with high marks for durability, side and back sleeping. We went to the sleep number store, stuck to our plan and avoided being up- sold, and bought both the recommended fiber topper and a gel topper to experiment with once the C2 arrives. We also are using our old metal frame with a queen-size bunkie board , for a nice savings compared to the $300 foundation from sleep number. More $ for new sheets and bedding!

Not perfect but best mattress I’ve had in….well ever.

I will not buy any other bed again.

Best bed I ever had. I’m a big person 300 Plus pounds…At year 10 the pump went out and I called…they still had my info and sold me a new pump at 1/2 price. It’s went through 2 moves and is still great! My husband is also big so it stands up to heavy folks. Folks on the phone were friendly and helpful. I’m looking now to buy my son one.

So far, So Good!

Keeps Your Feet Warm And Your Body Cool

Sleep Number i8 Modular Base Queen Mattress Set

If you’re always cold, you’re probably going to want the FlexFit 3 for its signature foot-warming feature, which isn’t available on the company’s other adjustable bases. As its name suggests, this feature warms just the foot end of the bed. It takes around 15 to 30 minutes to heat up. “Research has shown that having your feet gently warmed may help you fall asleep faster,” Sleep Number says.

With a dual-chamber mattress, you can individually control this feature on each side, so one person can have the foot warmer turned on and the other can have it turned off.

In testing, this feature has worked wonderfully. I have it set to High, and it gets toasty but not too hot. My one gripe is that you can only enable this feature as part of a Routine in the SleepIQ app. And since it’s only available in the Routines section of the Bed tab, it’s a bit hard to find.

To enable it, navigate to Bed > View Routines > Create a New Schedule. From there, you can select certain days of the week, set your bedtime, and set the foot warming temperature . After creating your Routine, the foot warmer will turn on 30 minutes before your bedtime, so it’s ready when you hop in. As you fall asleep, it will automatically cool down.

If you want to turn it on outside of your normal bedtime, you have to create a new Routine, which is sort of a hassle. I wish there was a button in the app to let you turn it on and off whenever you want.

Place The Mattress Cover Over Your Base

Step #2 is where you begin assembling your mattress. Depending on whether your bed has a dual system or not, the bottom of your mattress casing may have one or two openings. These openings will need to be placed at the head of your bed so that you can set up your air system properly. If you have two of them, make sure to open the bottom zipper, as this is where all the foam, sidewalls, base pad, and air chambers will go.
