How Do I Find My Sleep Number
A Sleep Number can be determined either before or after purchasing a Sleep Number bed. It will really all come down to what feels right to the individual.
Those who want to know their number before purchasing a mattress, they can visit their closest Sleep Number store and have a sales representative walk them through the process. At the store, the person will rest on a Sleep Number bed and they will inflate/deflate the floor model till they find a comfortable spot.
After purchasing a Sleep Number bed and having it delivered and set up, individuals can use the remote it comes with to start determining their Sleep Number. Instructions are provided Sleep Numbers website some of the steps include asking the sleeper to lie in their waking up sleep position and letting the mattress to go from soft to firm and back from firm to soft. This way can identify which firmness level is best.
Enough about numbers, lets talk about whats actually in a Sleep Number bed.
All Sleep Number mattresses come with one or two air chambers. These air chamber use a pump to bring in air that will inflate or deflate the chamber based on the individuals Sleep Number setting. Sleep Number calls this feature DualAir technology.
The higher the number the firmer the mattress will be. When there are two air chambers, each person can adjust the amount of air in their air chamber based on their personal preference.

Tailor Each Mattress To Fit Individual Needs
Oftentimes, partners need different things from their beds, and couples can finetune a split adjustable bed just for them. For example, one person could be a side sleeper who needs more cushioning around the shoulders and hips, while their partner may be a stomach sleeper who requires a firmer feel to avoid sinking into the mattress at the midsection. In that case, the side sleeper could use a soft mattress topper or even a softer mattress on their side of the split king.
How Does A Sleep Number Bed Work
Yes, the Sleep Number mattress has a lifespan of 20 years. This is a great compromise. Before going into details, it should be clear that the Sleep Number bed is an illustrious air mattress with 2 separate air chambers.

Sleep Number Mattress Construction
The “P” in the Sleep Number bed stands for Performance, and the 5 stands for the number of body zones the mattress targets. When looking at Sleep Number mattresses, know that the performance series is different from other Sleep Number models. What differs predominantly is their pillowtop style.”
Namely, this means that the Sleep Number offers an added layer of soft padding stitched to the mattress top. It is their comfort layer, specifically designed for pressure relief on all points of their body.
We are reviewing Sleep Number Mattress P5 because these models are their most popular Sleep Number beds based on reviews and experiences. It is the only sleep number bed that targets all the critical points in the body and relieves pressure, along with having a reasonable price point.
It balances firmness and has a contoured cushion to a T with a temperature balancing feature that is highly beneficial to those that need the excess heat transferred away from their body in any sleep position.
With all these features, compared to most mattresses and even most models within the same line, the P5 is genuinely the most affordable Smart Bed option.
Additionally, in this Sleep Number bed review, we will shortly mention another Sleep Number bed model, and that is the P6. As you can imagine, there are minor differences between the two. When these two Sleep Number mattresses compare, some people do not find it worth upgrading while others truly like the extras that go with the P6.

Youll also need to consider the adjustable beds weight limit, assembly, your budget, and the warranty. The trial period may also be a factor in your decision.
Sleep Number C4 Mattress Construction
The c4 model is pretty close to its sister model, c2. However, the Sleep Number C4 Classic Series mattress includes an added comfort layer that provides body contouring. Its also a little bit thicker than the c2 and has specific technological integrations so its compatible with SleepIQ® technology .
Heres a breakdown of the bed and what you can expect to find and feel:
The material: The mattress itself is made from a breathable polyester/polypropelene knit blend, and comes in at ten inches of thickness, which is measured from the base to the top of the mattress.
The cover: Unlike the c2, the c4 has a foam comfort layer that lies above the air chamber. Its 1.5 inches of polyurethane foam that features three zones of comfort, designed to provide pressure relief and specifically target your head and neck, back, and hips. Why Opt For An Adjustable Bed Frame
This kind of bed frame has grown in popularity a lot in recent years because adjustable bed frames often come with a lot of special features and can even be helpful in treating certain health conditions. For example, if you snore or suffer from sleep apnea, you can program your bed frame to raise 10°, which should improve your breathing. Some bed frames also come with massage features, a zero gravity setting, and even USB ports for easy phone charging while you sleep, among other things.
These bed frames are also often made to fit inside of your existing bed frame and will take the place of a traditional foundation, platform, box spring, or wooden slats. There is no need to compromise on the style of your room for the comfort of an adjustable frame.
If you go for an adjustable bed frame with split king mattresses, you will likely find that you and your partner are both able to find the ideal sleep setting for you. One person can sleep soundly on their soft foam mattress while the bed frame gently vibrates to massage their feet, while the other person can feel supported and cool on their firm latex mattress that is lifted to the perfect angle to avoid waking themselves up in the middle of the night with their loud snoring.
How Sleep Number Mattresses Compare
The low end of each price range refers to the size noted in the chart. The high end refers to a split or flextop California king bed, unless noted. Split and flextop mattresses are the same pricea split mattress works for a base that adjusts only the upper body a flextop works for one that adjusts to both upper and lower bodyand theyre around $200 to $600 more expensive than a regular mattress of the same size.

The Sleep Number 360 Smart Bed Performance Series
The Performance Series is slightly plusher than the Classic Series. The p5 and cooling pSE each have 4 inches of cushioning, for a total height of 10 inches. The p6, the companys most popular mattress, has an additional inch of cushioning, for an overall thickness of 11 inches.
Compared with the beds in the Classic line and the Performance lines p5, the p6 felt like a real mattress, the kind with a surface thats adequately cushioned for people who are not particularly high-maintenance. But when I tried the p6 at home, I couldnt shake the feeling that I was sleeping on a rubber raft. The 5 inches of foam wasnt enough for me to nestle into, even with a softer air-bladder setting. Letting out air offered more give, but then the bed didnt feel as supportive, and it still didnt feel fluffy, per se.
I was left feeling adrift, but my husband, by contrast, loved sleeping on the p6. For once, instead of compromising on my medium-soft-mattress preferences, he could sleep on a firm mattress next to me. It was a sad day for him when we returned this mattress.
The pSE wasnt available to try at the store when I visited, but Sleep Numbers publicist said it has proprietary ClimaTemp foam that is softer and more plush than whats typically used on the p series. Unfortunately, were not sure exactly how this technology works because Sleep Number doesnt share details about its foam.
Putting The Sheets On A Split King Adjustable Bed
Twin XL sheets or King? Its a bit of a dilemma. Making the bed can be a bit of a double-edged sword. If you plan to use the adjustable base on separate settings, youll need two sets of Twin XL sheets.
The ability to raise the head and foot of each side makes it much easier to reach all of the corners and wrap the fitted sheets securely around each Twin mattress. Youll need two sets of Twin XL sheets since youll be making two beds instead of one.
If you use the ratchet method to stop your mattresses from separating, youll need King sheets since youll be unable to split the beds at the inner sides of the mattress. However, this prevents each side from adjusting.

Going with the C2 and adding my own bells and whistles
Very grateful for Candid Reviewer’s advice. We were interested in the C2 after seeing the excellent rating it received from Consumer Reports, with high marks for durability, side and back sleeping. We went to the sleep number store, stuck to our plan and avoided being up- sold, and bought both the recommended fiber topper and a gel topper to experiment with once the C2 arrives. We also are using our old metal frame with a queen-size bunkie board , for a nice savings compared to the $300 foundation from sleep number. More $ for new sheets and bedding!
Not perfect but best mattress I’ve had in….well ever.
I will not buy any other bed again.
Best bed I ever had. I’m a big person 300 Plus pounds…At year 10 the pump went out and I called…they still had my info and sold me a new pump at 1/2 price. It’s went through 2 moves and is still great! My husband is also big so it stands up to heavy folks. Folks on the phone were friendly and helpful. I’m looking now to buy my son one.
So far, So Good!
Warning: Sleep Number Beds Last Only 6 Years

Sleep Number Vs Personal Comfort
Theres not just one bed by Personal Comfort that compares to a Sleep Number. Rather, nearly every bed made by Personal Comfort is produced to directly compete with a corresponding Sleep Number model. Sleep Number offers the Classic, Performance, and Innovation lines, and Personal Comfort offers the Classic, Advanced, and Elegance lines.
Both mattress manufacturers have designed these lines to be priced from budget-friendly to luxury investment, and the bed models share similar names . But how do Personal Comfort mattresses actually compare?
Personal Comforts price points are generally lower compared to Sleep Number , but some customers note issues with the beds durability and Personal Comforts customer service.

The Sleep Number Value Beds
The Value Bed line is Sleep Numbers bed in a box option. The company is planning to discontinue it in the near future, but for now, given the current coronavirus crisis, it has gained in popularity because of its contact-free delivery. The Value lines s1 and the s3 mattresses cost about the same as the beds in the Classic line, but they have a quilted cushion layer . That quilted layer is zoned to cater to various pressure points there are five different cushioned areas in the s1 and seven in the s3. The company doesnt divulge details about its foam, so were not sure how the zones differ. But we do know that this comfort portion isnt thicker than the 2 inches we found wanting in the Classic lines entry-level c2, and the air pump sits on the floor, as opposed to being integrated into the mattress itself, like with the other lines. And although the Value line comes with SleepIQ technology, the Value Beds dont have the smart feature that allows them to conform to your body as you shift positions. We havent tried this line, but given how spartan the c line felt, we cant imagine that any amount of quilting or zoning would compensate for the thin comfort layer.
